Doric/Xenk Yendar
In-Universe Fanfic, Other In-Universe Documents

I love Doric's combination of a sharp tongue with her moral integrity and intense environmental concern, and how that contrasts and blends with Xenk's stern intensity, his awkward ways, and his own intense sense of justice and goodness. We don't really get any focused moments between these two in the film, but Doric actually seems like the least hostile to Xenk from the beginning - ironic considering her original stance on humans... but then Xenk and his ridiculous paladin goodness are so obviously the opposite of that! They're both visibly outsiders in ways the others aren't, so maybe they would have a natural understanding - or they'd bond over the angst of losing their families because of it.

You could do this entirely in epistolary format, just using the document(s) to comment on their relationship, but I'd also love a meta narrative of Doric and Xenk reacting to it. Could be a newspaper article about them saving the world again. Maybe the wood elves interpret events differently to the human press. Maybe Xenk gives an interview that lays all the praise at Doric's feet - leading her to suspect his motives. Could be an internal Harper report, concerned about their associate Xenk. Could be a letter between Red Wizards or Thayan assassins like Dralas, identifying Doric as a new weakspot for Xenk... Or it could be a fanfic, and I'm fine with you interpreting "fanfic" quite broadly - I'd include bard songs about them, for example. But also maybe someone self-publishes a romance novel about them, and it feels very much like a self-insert fantasy... but reading it gets Doric and Xenk to consider each other in ways they hadn't before. Or maybe they're already an established relationship, and they're amused by how inaccurate it is - even if the smutty parts also inspire them to try something new!

If you want more general Doric/Xenk prompts as inspiration, I've previously requested this ship.

(Please don't mention Simon and Doric breaking up. I'd rather you give them an open relationship, make it an AU where they were never into each other, or just ignore that ship altogether.)

Edgin Darvis/Doric
In-Universe Fanfic, Other In-Universe Documents

I love that Doric is so committed to doing good and looking after nature, but that she doesn't let the rules stand in her way. And she has a very sharp tongue, in contrast to Edgin's silver one. Edgin thinks of himself as a thief and a lawbreaker, and is maybe trying to pretend he doesn't enjoy doing good as much as he actually does. He uses humour and a charming mask to hide his pain, but Doric absolutely doesn't fall for it - but maybe his charm would be more welcome now they have a genuine connection.

You could do this entirely in epistolary format, just using the document(s) to comment on their relationship, but I'd also love a meta narrative of Doric and Edgin reacting to it. Could be a newspaper article about them saving the world again. Maybe the wood elves interpret events differently to the human press. Maybe Edgin gets interviewed and boasts a little - leading Doric to tease him. Could be an internal Harper report, concerned about their former member Edgin... Or it could be a fanfic, and I'm fine with you interpreting "fanfic" quite broadly - I'd include bard songs about them, for example. But also maybe someone self-publishes a romance novel about them, and it feels very much like a self-insert fantasy... but reading it gets Doric and Edgin to consider each other in ways they hadn't before. Or maybe they're already an established relationship, and they're amused by how inaccurate it is - even if the smutty parts also inspire them to try something new!

Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar
In-Universe Fanfic, Other In-Universe Documents

I love their banter and how they spark off each other, how Edgin sees Xenk as an enemy but then grows to respect him and doesn't want him to leave, how Xenk is frustrated with Edgin's criminal tendencies but fully believes in his goodness and is determined to draw it out... Making Edgin swear on the Harper's seal, then tenderly touching his hand? Yeah. They're so good for mutual pining too. Maybe Xenk thinks he can't be with anyone because of his duty as a paladin, or because the Beckoning Death has left him cursed, partially undead, lacking part of his soul, etc. Maybe Edgin thinks Xenk's too noble and pure to want a criminal like him, or thinks Xenk wants someone more serious or more intellectual. Xenk thinking Edgin's too charming and sociable to want someone as awkward and unbending as him... Maybe it takes an outsider perspective to get them to see what they could really be to each other?

You could do this entirely in epistolary format, just using the document(s) to comment on their relationship, but I'd also love a meta narrative of Edgin and Xenk reacting to it. Could be a newspaper article about them saving the world again. Maybe Edgin gets interviewed and boasts a little - leading Xenk to tease him. Maybe Xenk gives an interview that lays all the praise at Edgin's feet - leading him to suspect Xenk's motives. Could be an internal Harper report, concerned about this connection between their associate Xenk and former member Edgin. Could be a letter between Red Wizards or Thayan assassins like Dralas, identifying Edgin as a new weakspot for Xenk... Or it could be a fanfic, and I'm fine with you interpreting "fanfic" quite broadly - I'd include bard songs about them, for example. But also maybe someone self-publishes a romance novel about them, and it feels very much like a self-insert fantasy... but reading it forces Edgin and Xenk to confront their feelings for each other. Or maybe they're already an established relationship, and they're amused by how inaccurate it is - even if the smutty parts also inspire them to try something new!

Simon Aumar/Doric
In-Universe Fanfic, Other In-Universe Documents

Both of them have angsty pasts: Doric as a tiefling rejected by her parents, who's visibly an outsider wherever she goes; Simon as a sorcerer trying to live up to his family's long legacy of wizardry. Plus, as a half-elf, wherever he was raised, he was probably too human for the elves and too elven for the humans. But they end up finding something sweet and hopeful together - even if Doric can't fully soften her sharp tongue. Though Simon is very soft for her! And she's clearly into him, even if she needed to see him shape up first.

You could do this entirely in epistolary format, just using the document(s) to comment on their relationship, but I'd also love a meta narrative of Doric and Simon reacting to it. Could be a newspaper article about them saving the world again. Maybe the wood elves interpret events differently to the human press. Maybe seeing all that positive press gets Simon to think of himself more positively - or to sigh at being compared to Elminster again. Could be a letter between other Aumar family members, saying "have you heard what cousin Simon's up to these days?" Or it could be a fanfic, and I'm fine with you interpreting "fanfic" quite broadly - I'd include bard songs about them, for example. But also maybe someone self-publishes a romance novel about them, and it feels very much like a self-insert fantasy... but even as they're amused by how inaccurate it is, they can't help getting a little hot and bothered by the smutty parts!

Simon Aumar/Edgin Darvis
In-Universe Fanfic, Other In-Universe Documents

I love how Edgin is absolutely convinced of Simon's potential badassery (he has a mental list of all the times Simon's magic worked!) and how he's determined to make Simon believe it too - and this, for some reason, involves touching Simon's face a lot. Simon is awkward and sulky in the face of this, even though he's perfectly willing to trust Edgin and follow his lead in other areas. Maybe Simon is pining, and can't let himself believe that Edgin cares about him - until an outsider perspective makes their chemistry obvious?

You could do this entirely in epistolary format, just using the document(s) to comment on their relationship, but I'd also love a meta narrative of Simon and Edgin reacting to it. Simon Aumar/Xenk Yendar
In-Universe Fanfic, Other In-Universe Documents

Under his sarcasm, his awkwardness, and his occasional sulkiness, Simon is rather sweet and kinda adorable. And once you see past his stern manner and paladin morals, Xenk is kind and actually sorta awkward too. I like the idea that they're both a bit dorky, deeply interested in niche subjects, in a way none of the others understand. But I think they could find some common ground. Despite his initial jealousy, Simon is eager for Xenk to stay at the end - but maybe Simon worries that Xenk doesn't like him, or doesn't respect him? And Xenk isn't great at social interaction, so he might not realise Simon feels that way, or might not know how to explain that he actually does care. Maybe it takes an outsider perspective to bring them together?

Simon Aumar & Edgin Darvis & Kira Darvis & Doric & Holga Kilgore & Xenk Yendar
Other In-Universe Documents

I have so many feelings about these characters. I love the found family that the party develop over the course of the film, and really want Kira and Xenk included in future adventures. I picked the "other documents" tag because I'd love a newspaper article about one of those adventures. Could be the Neverwinter heist itself, now that they're the Heroes of Neverwinter. Or it could be some future adventure, as they fight off another baddy, or rescue a kidnapped villager, or deal with the dark magic leaking from a dungeon, or... Maybe they get interviewed about it. Maybe the article involves interviews with the people they met. Maybe it's just a commentary on the facts of the case - even if those facts are sensationalised. Or maybe an internal report by the Harpers, recording what happened?

You could do this entirely in epistolary format, using the documents to reveal the events - or multiple, contradictory versions of events if you include more than one document. But I'd also love a meta narrative of the party reading, commenting on, complaining about, and/or bantering over what it says. Maybe Simon sighs about being compared to Elminster again. Maybe Edgin's annoyed that the article credits Xenk for their success. Maybe Kira is just super excited to be mentioned. Maybe they all keep stopping to argue about how wrong the article is and what really happened - except maybe they can't agree on what really happened either!

If you want more general prompts as inspiration, I've requested these characters before.

Isabel/Tara fanfiction written by Maddy and Owen
In-Universe Fanfic, In-Universe Social Media

I was definitely shipping Isabel/Tara even in the few snippets of The Pink Opaque we got, and I loved the awkward, tender relationship that developed between Maddy and Owen. The liminal space of late night TV gave them a place where they could reveal their secrets and see themselves/each other in ways nobody else could, and I'd love for fanfic writing to be part of that.

I'm interested in both "they really are Tara and Isabel, trapped in the Midnight Realm" and "the Pink Opaque is just fiction" interpretations - though Maddy and Owen putting their own theories about themselves being the characters into the fic could be one way of specifically identifying it as theirs without a meta narrative from their POV. But I would also love a meta narrative! Maybe they exchange messages, or talk in person, as they cowrite the fic - or one of them betas for the other. Maybe they pause writing a scene to see if Specific Thing is physically possible - and acting it out puts Maddy and Owen in a very intimate position. Maybe reading the fic together turns into roleplaying it? Especially in the context of believing they are Tara and Isabel, I can see shipping Tara/Isabel as being something that prompts shippy feelings between Maddy/Owen, or maybe they're sublimating their feelings into Tara/Isabel to start with. I'm very happy for this to include a side of Maddy/transfem!Owen shippiness - but you don't have to comment on the nature of their relationship at all. And you could set this before Maddy leaves town, or maybe do an AU where she never did - but again, I'm fine with you leaving the exact scenario unstated. (Ambiguity, conflicting narratives, and timeline fuckery all seem very appropriate for this canon.)

I opted into both the fanfic and social media tags, as I'm interested in both the text of the fic itself, and in-universe discussion of it - whether that's between Maddy and Owen, or maybe comments by outsiders when they post it online. If they even post it online! I'm okay with it being a thing they keep between themselves, but maybe The Pink Opaque has a tiny fandom they're part of - or a huge Buffyesque fandom where they're just part of the crowd. (Also, the tag specifies "written by Maddy and Owen", but I'm okay with a fic written by only one, as long as the other is involved in betaing/editing/suggesting ideas for it. Just imply the other also writes fic? I want this to be a mutual thing they engage in.)

If you want more general Maddy/Owen prompts as inspiration, I've previously requested that ship.

Nicholas Devereaux/Mia Thermopolis
In-Universe Social Media; Other In-Universe Documents

I ship these two so much, and one of my favourite tropes to explore with them is the public/media scrutiny, the intense environment that creates, and how they deal with it. I selected the social media and other documents tags, as I'm mainly looking for online commentary and newspaper articles here. You could focus on people's reactions to one of the events of the film - falling in the fountain, being caught staying out all night, Mia's wedding that wasn't - or entirely new events, now that they're an established couple. What are people's comments on Mia/Nicholas's engagement announcement? Their wedding? Anniversary? Announcing a pregnancy, the birth of their child(ren), official photos of those children? Show me their relationship through how people react to their milestones. Or you could do something about their daily lives - critiquing their outfits for an event, jokes about Mia tripping at a royal ball, approving of their charity work. I can see Mia's clumsiness becoming a bit of a meme - some negativity is fine but preferably overall positive, with a fond/relatable tone, like people adopting gifs of her falling over for "me leaving the club at 3am" posts or hashtagging a photo of her grimacing behind Mabrey's back with "same", etc? But also people thirsting over Mia/Nicholas - or the gossip getting very intrusive and personal. I'd prefer the press to be Genovian press, but the social media could be from Genovians or people from other countries - or a contrast between the two!

You could do this purely in epistolary form, revealing the details of events via outsider comments, but I'd also love a meta-narrative about Mia/Nicholas reacting to those comments. Could be in person, e.g. complaining to each other over the breakfast table as they read the newspaper, or it could be via their own social media posts. Private messages reacting to how hilariously wrong people's assumptions are, or enjoying being memes? Nicholas retweeting a "we stan our queen" gifset of Mia being clumsy with "my queen"? Mia graciously thanking people for their kind comments - or Nicholas subtly sassing the negative ones?

I'm fine with both a fluffier tone, full of humour or fond approval, or something more angsty (or hurt/comfort) as the public or the media create an atmosphere of intrusion and judgement, and how Mia/Nicholas support each other through that. Feel free to include characters like Clarisse, Joe, Lilly, etc. Maybe Clarisse needs someone to explain what a meme is. Maybe Joe has to be reminded he can't glare at online haters and anyway he's retired. Maybe Fat Louie accidentally posts a blurry closeup photo of his nose. (Maybe Nicholas posts about "haha my cat just did X" and people realise, wait, that's actually Mia's cat, does that mean they -)

If you want more general Mia/Nicholas prompts as inspiration, I've previously requested this ship.

Note: I DNWed both "anti-monarchy moralising" and "hate-focused communities" - I'm fine with not all the diegetic comments being positive, but I don't want any of that negativity being about why monarchy itself is bad (mainly because I'd agree with it, lmao, and this canon is a fun guiltfree fantasy for me). And I don't want any of those online hate communities - you know the ones, where a group of people get together to hate on A/B and create an echo chamber that analyses every tiny thing they do with the starting point of "they suck", eventually devolving into conspiracy theories about how A wearing purple means they're definitely a narcissist... That kind of hate community. Individuals disapproving of Mia and/or Nicholas? Fine. People saying "Mia's too clumsy to be queen" or "how could she marry him, Nicholas is totally going to betray her one day"? Totally cool. People preferring Mia/Andrew over Mia/Nicholas? Not a problem. Being creepily over-invested and invading their privacy? Great drama. Just not those two specific DNWs, thank you.
