I so badly wanted these two to get back together and I was really disappointed that they didn't. Yeah, yeah, realism, nuance, complexity. Whatever. I just want them to patch things up and be happy together.
It's not entirely clear what the problem with their marriage is - it's mentioned that Dominic went to rehab for alcoholism, but the way Cass talks about that she sounds like she's proud of him for overcoming it, and it's not a source of resentment. He's eager to express his feelings for her as well, so it wasn't about him being emotionally distant. Was the break up due to Dominic being a workaholic instead? We see his loyalty to Miranda and his protective instincts resulting in him staying late to look after her, even when that causes problems with Phil. Is that him just continuing the same pattern?
Basically I just want to see them in love: charming, protective, angsty Dominic and outspoken, strongwilled, sensible Cass having a relationship that works. Happy family times with Addison welcome.
A pines for former lover B who left them Dominic pines for his wife... then they reunite. That's it. That's my entire request, lmao. I just want a fix-it for them.
Simon Basset/Anthony Bridgerton

These two are both traumatised and both weighed down by duty in different ways - Simon, determined to keep the angry vow made to his terrible father, and Anthony, trying to shepherd the loving family he became head of far too young. Simon has a sharp tongue that rears up when he's hurting, but Anthony knows him better than almost anyone. Anthony might struggle with his forbidden feelings for Simon, but maybe as the eldest brother to seven younger siblings it's easy to slip into the role of protector. Considering the era, maybe there's a current of repressed sexual tension between them - or maybe they've already started a secret relationship. Could be during their Oxford days, when they're both rakes about town, or a no-wives AU, but I'd really like them to peel back their manly reserve to allow a little softness through.
Accidental soulbond while pining They've both been hiding their feelings, but oh no, now they're soulbonded and they can hear each other's thoughts/feel each other's feelings/can't move too far apart/maybe all of the above. Best friends pining for each other The basic idea here. They have a strong emotional connection, but they're scared to confess because they don't think it's reciprocated/they don't think it's appropriate/they don't want to ruin the friendship/whatever logic you think works.
Mutual pining while one is sick and the other(s) take care of them Maybe at Oxford? Or they're both at White's, and one has to help the other home when they realise how sick he's getting? And then comfort while pining.
Mutually pining fuckbuddies They already have regular casual sex, but they've both fallen in love - and neither wants to be the one to confess.
Pining due to societal homophobia Despite their rakish attitudes, I can see this being an aspect to why they pine. Angst about forbidden love! Nobody can ever know! Of course he cannot feel the same! etc. etc. But eventually one of them confesses and all is well.
Roommates while pining Oxford days, yesss. Sharing a set, technically. But I love the domesticity/forced proximity combined with the pining.
Soulmate AU - mutually pining characters have matching soulmarks but relationship is forbidden Pining due to societal homophobia, now with added soulmarks. Delicious. Maybe they pine even after discovering, thinking it's too dangerous and/or the other man can't possibly really want them? (Or maybe they get together as soon as they know - but decide to keep their soulmarks hidden after that?)

I love that they're both competent, but that Diana really got to shine as a badass - and that Steve, despite the attitudes of his time period, was impressed by her. Diana is so determined and forthright, but the culture clash and her mostly-theoretical knowledge means she starts off quite naive and has to learn how to deal with the complexities of the wider world. Steve is trying hard to be a good man and make a difference, but he's clearly seen terrible things during the war and he has to be haunted by them. They make such a good team, both as adventurers and as a couple. Feel free to do a canon divergence AU where Steve survives the first film, or have him reincarnated.
Accidental soulbond while pining Maybe it happens when Diana saves Steve's life? Or a bit after, once there's already an attraction? But oh no, now they're soulbonded and they can hear each other's thoughts/feel each other's feelings/can't move too far apart/maybe all of the above. How does this change their relationship (and the plot of the first film) if they've got this magical weirdness going on now?
Alpha/Beta/Omega - mutually pining characters nobly resist sex when omega goes into heat I'd tend towards Steve being the omega and Diana being the alpha but I'm okay with that being reversed. But I'd love an omegaverse AU, where the omega goes into heat while they're travelling together, before they've confessed feelings - and they resist the urge (maybe with some non-sexual comfort) because neither one wants to take advantage. But it prompts an admission of feelings, either during or after?
Character A pines over amnesiac Character B Maybe Steve survived the first film, but lost his memory? Or maybe he's been reincarnated/resurrected/something... only he doesn't remember all of/any of his first life? And Diana pines for him. (Maybe she tells Steve, hoping to prompt his memory, and he ends up pining for what he lost - see below - or maybe the new Steve falls in love with Diana too, but thinks she's in love with someone else.)
Character with amnesia pining for relationship they can't remember As above, but Steve's POV. He's still attracted to Diana, but he can tell from the way she looks at him, talks about his past, that they had something special and he wants that back - but he doesn't know if that's possible.
Reincarnation - Pining for Reincarnated Loved One Whose Past Life Memories Haven't Returned (Yet) Diana meets a reincarnated Steve - but he doesn't remember her. Maybe he has a sense that something's missing, maybe he has vague but intense dreams that leave him with a sense of longing, but Diana keeps hoping he'll remember who he was. (Eventually, of course, he does.)
Alice Chambers/Frank Carlson

I loved the mindfuckery aspects of this film, and Frank was so compellingly creepy that I both wanted to run away and couldn't take my eyes off him. Their intellectual rivalry and mind games, with Frank daring Alice to work out what's really going on, sparked such good chemistry between them, and I'd love to see more in that vein - or maybe Frank alters Alice's memory to keep her unknowing and compliant. If you want to do smut, I'm happy for it to be anywhere from noncon to dubcon to fully consensual (if maybe conflicted and/or filled with shame).
I'm fine with a missing scene or with canon divergence (Frank lives and Alice gets caught; Shelley escapes instead of Alice; Alice goes for a final showdown with Frank; etc). Considering the nature of the relationships in this canon, I have no problem with either Alice or Frank "cheating" on their partners. Also happy for Alice/Jack and Frank/Shelley to be happening in the background. Jack can be alive or dead, as suits your story.

She's been resisting her own attraction, maybe despite knowing Frank's into her too, but when she goes into heat she can't hide it any more - and maybe Frank can't hide his unexpectedly protective alpha instincts either.
Grudgingly pining for someone you should hate There's already such a tension to their rivalry... What if it was due to pining?
Lima Syndrome causes captor to pine for their captive Frank wins and decides to keep Alice captive, in a comfortable prison where he can visit her. And he develops real feelings for her. (Maybe Alice was grudgingly pining anyway, or maybe she only falls after this.)
Pining A using mindwipe to make B believe they're in a relationship Maybe Frank has no idea Alice is pining too, or maybe he realises she'd never give into it - so he alters her memories to make her believe they're a couple.
Sex Pollen - mutually pining characters both afflicted Victory has a glitch, and it hits while these two happen to be close together. Maybe they give in to the urge and have some angsty, angry sex while pining? And maybe accidentally end up revealing their true feelings during the act?
Stockholm Syndrome Causes Captive to Pine for Captor Frank wins and decides to keep Alice captive, in a comfortable prison where he can visit her. And despite herself, Alice develops feelings for him. (Maybe Frank was already pining, and that's why he kept her?)
Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar

I have so many feelings about these two. I love their banter and how they spark off each other, how Edgin sees Xenk as an enemy but then grows to respect him and doesn't want him to leave, how Xenk is frustrated with Edgin's criminal tendencies but fully believes in his goodness and is determined to draw it out... Making Edgin swear on the Harper's seal, then tenderly touching his hand? In fact, all of the hand-holding, and the offers of hand-holding. I'd love to see how their relationship develops after the film, with a softer friendship blossoming into romance. (And more touching. Lots of touching. And banter.)
These two are so good for mutual pining. Maybe Xenk thinks he can't be with anyone because of his duty as a paladin, or because the Beckoning Death has left him cursed, partially undead, lacking part of his soul, etc. Maybe Edgin finds out Xenk is a virgin and assumes the guy isn't interested in sex at all. (I do headcanon Xenk as a virgin.) Or Edgin thinks Xenk's too noble and pure to want a criminal like him, or thinks Xenk wants someone more serious or more intellectual. Xenk thinking Edgin's too charming and sociable to want someone as awkward and unbending as him... I love the angsty possibilities of all this, the two of them keeping their feelings secret even as they're practically bursting with longing. Especially as both of them are so touchy-feely! They must be torturing each other.

Edgin Darvis/Zia Darvis/Xenk Yendar

I really like the idea of Edgin getting to be happy with Zia but also with Xenk, and Zia and Xenk being happy together too. So... AU where she never dies? Maybe Edgin stays a Harper and ends up working with Xenk, and they get closer, resulting in Xenk being drawn into the established marriage?
Edgin seemed a lot softer before Zia's death - and maybe less prone to hiding his feelings - and Zia seemed very sweet and understanding, and I'd love to see what kind of dynamic they develop with kind but serious Xenk. Would love to see them being domestic in the cottage at Targos, all helping to raise Kira, or - as Edgin and Holga managed to take young Kira on the road - maybe all three of them could have glorious adventures together, making the world a better place? Or maybe they're on the run from the Red Wizards?
Mutual pining while one is injured and the other(s) take care of them Maybe Xenk is injured and Edgin has to take him home, resulting in Edgin and Zia nursing him back to health. Or Edgin is injured and Xenk takes him to the cottage, but stays so his healing magic can recharge - or Zia insists he stays, because Xenk is wounded too?
Mutual pining while one protects the other(s) from enemies Xenk's the most obvious for the protector role here - but maybe he's injured, and Edgin and/or Zia has to step up?
Pining while on the run together Zia decides to take Kira and go with Edgin to the market that night. They see the Red Wizards riding to their cottage and make an escape - but the Red Wizards are still after them, so they have to take refuge with the Harpers... where a Thayan paladin promises to protect them.
Polyamory - A & B are a couple and both pine after C The basic idea, from Edgin or Zia's POV.

And they both pine guiltily, because Edgin is married, but what they're doing feels so real and so right... (Maybe the setup means Edgin can visit Zia some nights? Or write letters? Or maybe the whole mess of feelings only comes out when he returns home, and Zia has to sort them out?)
Nicholas Devereaux/Mia Thermopolis

This is such a great example of enemies to lovers. I love that they're kind and flirty at their first meeting, because they're immediately attracted to each other, and that even once they're enemies they can't hide that sexual tension. But their enmity is based on both seeking something only one of them can have rather than ideological differences: Nicholas seems more motivated by whether Mia's going to be a good queen and whether she really knows Genovia (and by his uncle's influence), and not a personal hunger for power. So once he's convinced of her capability (and she of his sincerity) and he gives up his claim to the crown, there's no question about whether they'd be able to find common ground.
I love both the push-and-pull of Nicholas flirting and Mia trying to resist (in the closet, by the fountain, the deleted scene in the kitchen) as well as them being soft and friendly with each other: Nicholas supporting Mia by helping with her archery, and the night they spend together before her wedding where we see them opening up emotionally, dancing close, and falling asleep in each other's arms. Some of my prompts are for AUs, but I'm also okay with missing scenes - and, as their pining is canonically requited, I'm okay with that not being shown within the fic. (As long as it implies that happy ending will still happening.)
I liked Andrew as a character so no bashing of him please, and it's fine to have Mia/Andrew's unromantic engagement happening in the background or to show them amicably breaking up. Also happy for Clarisse/Joe to be in the background, or for Lilly to visit again. Or cute appearances by Fat Louie the cat or Maurice the dog!

Cooking as an expression of affection for the object of pining I love that deleted scene where Nicholas cooks for Mia. He definitely shows his softer side when he's in the kitchen - and maybe that's a deliberate expression of his feelings. (And maybe Mia wonders if that's the case, and it makes her own conflicted feelings worse.)
James T. Kirk/Leonard "Bones" McCoy

I love Bones and his sassy grumpiness, and how under that he clearly cares (though possibly he wishes he didn't). Kirk starts off rebellious and traumatised, but obviously has a keen mind and an urge to protect people. Really enjoy both Bones despairing at young, reckless, flirty Kirk, and the more tender moments once Kirk mellows into a slightly-more-responsible captain, like when they're sharing the booze that Bones stole from Chekov.
Do they mutually pine over each other in silence, with Bones maybe believing Kirk isn't even into men? Or does Kirk proposition him while they're still at the academy and they become friends with benefits? How long does it take them to admit they have feelings and they want more? Or maybe it's only after they're already on their five year mission when they start to see each other that way - does a dangerous situation push them to confess?

Chekov is so fucking adorable. I love his earnest enthusiasm, his innocence, and his extreme competency despite his age - and how that fits with Kirk, who's older, more traumatised, and chafes against the rules, but strives to protect his crew. They work so well together, and I really enjoyed how much of Beyond was just the two of them out in the wilds, with a slightly more mature Chekov showing he can handle himself in the field.
Please set this during or after Beyond, i.e. when Chekov is 22 or older.

James T. Kirk/Christopher Pike
Both Pining; Feelings Eventually Requited
I love that Pike was the first one to believe in Kirk - and the one who got Kirk to believe in himself. He finds this young guy losing a bar fight and tells him he can do more, be better, live up to not only his potential but his father's legacy. And Kirk hears that challenge and says no, I'll do even better than that.
But there's a tension between them: Pike encourages Kirk's out-of-the-box thinking and urge for heroics, but also expects him to follow the rules (or at least know which rules to break and when). Kirk wants that approval, wants to excel, but he's used to rebellion and reckless behaviour and is willing to risk more than other people are comfortable with. There's this push and pull where they're trying to find where the line should fall.
As a captain, Pike seems kind and steady but also willing to make unconventional choices, and he gives Kirk a chance to speak even when he's just stowed away on his ship. Kirk respects him and wants his respect in return but also chafes against the hierarchy of Starfleet. I'd love to see their mutual pining blossom into a relationship, with Pike being encouraging but maybe also conflicted, and Kirk finding a sense of safety even as he's unsettled by commitment.
Not looking for daddy kink here but Kirk's daddy issues are welcome. He obviously has some trauma with regards to his father (and presumably his abusive stepfather) and that's part of why he is the way he is. But with everything that happens in space, they probably both have some trauma due to the terrible things they've seen, maybe even PTSD, and that could play into some hurt/comfort.

Kirk's a good leader, but he's got trauma lurking beneath the surface, and I think Scotty would be kind with that. And they're both brilliant in their own ways.

Steve is trying hard to be a good man and make a difference, but he's clearly seen terrible things during the war and he has to be haunted by them. They make such a good team, both as adventurers and as a couple. Feel free to do a canon divergence AU where Steve survives the first film, or have him reincarnated.

Their intellectual rivalry and mind games, with Frank daring Alice to work out what's really going on, sparked such good chemistry between them, and I'd love to see more in that vein - or maybe Frank alters Alice's memory to keep her unknowing and compliant. If you want to do smut, I'm happy for it to be anywhere from noncon to dubcon to fully consensual (if maybe conflicted and/or filled with shame).
I'm fine with a missing scene or with canon divergence (Frank lives and Alice gets caught; Shelley escapes instead of Alice; Alice goes for a final showdown with Frank; etc). Considering the nature of the relationships in this canon, I have no problem with either Alice or Frank "cheating" on their partners. Also happy for Alice/Jack and Frank/Shelley to be happening in the background. Jack can be alive or dead, as suits your story.

Making Edgin swear on the Harper's seal, then tenderly touching his hand? In fact, all of the hand-holding, and the offers of hand-holding. I'd love to see how their relationship develops after the film, with a softer friendship blossoming into romance. (And more touching. Lots of touching. And banter.)
These two are so good for mutual pining. Maybe Xenk thinks he can't be with anyone because of his duty as a paladin, or because the Beckoning Death has left him cursed, partially undead, lacking part of his soul, etc. Maybe Edgin finds out Xenk is a virgin and assumes the guy isn't interested in sex at all. Would love to see them being domestic in the cottage at Targos, all helping to raise Kira, or - as Edgin and Holga managed to take young Kira on the road - maybe all three of them could have glorious adventures together, making the world a better place? This is such a great example of enemies to lovers. I love that they're kind and flirty at their first meeting, because they're immediately attracted to each other, and that even once they're enemies they can't hide that sexual tension. But their enmity is based on both seeking something only one of them can have rather than ideological differences: Nicholas seems more motivated by whether Mia's going to be a good queen and whether she really knows Genovia (and by his uncle's influence), and not a personal hunger for power. So once he's convinced of her capability (and she of his sincerity) and he gives up his claim to the crown, there's no question about whether they'd be able to find common ground.
I love both the push-and-pull of Nicholas flirting and Mia trying to resist (in the closet, by the fountain, the deleted scene in the kitchen) as well as them being soft and friendly with each other: Nicholas supporting Mia by helping with her archery, and the night they spend together before her wedding where we see them opening up emotionally, dancing close, and falling asleep in each other's arms. Some of my prompts are for AUs, but I'm also okay with missing scenes - and, as their pining is canonically requited, I'm okay with that not being shown within the fic. (As long as it implies that happy ending will still happening.)
I liked Andrew as a character so no bashing of him please, and it's fine to have Mia/Andrew's unromantic engagement happening in the background or to show them amicably breaking up. Or does Kirk proposition him while they're still at the academy and they become friends with benefits? How long does it take them to admit they have feelings and they want more? I love that Pike was the first one to believe in Kirk - and the one who got Kirk to believe in himself. He finds this young guy losing a bar fight and tells him he can do more, be better, live up to not only his potential but his father's legacy. And Kirk hears that challenge and says no, I'll do even better than that.
But there's a tension between them: Pike encourages Kirk's out-of-the-box thinking and urge for heroics, but also expects him to follow the rules (or at least know which rules to break and when). Kirk wants that approval, wants to excel, but he's used to rebellion and reckless behaviour and is willing to risk more than other people are comfortable with. There's this push and pull where they're trying to find where the line should fall.
As a captain, Pike seems kind and steady but also willing to make unconventional choices, and he gives Kirk a chance to speak even when he's just stowed away on his ship. Kirk respects him and wants his respect in return but also chafes against the hierarchy of Starfleet. I'd love to see their mutual pining blossom into a relationship, with Pike being encouraging but maybe also conflicted, and Kirk finding a sense of safety even as he's unsettled by commitment.
Not looking for daddy kink here but Kirk's daddy issues are welcome. He obviously has some trauma with regards to his father (and presumably his abusive stepfather) and that's part of why he is the way he is. But with everything that happens in space, they probably both have some trauma due to the terrible things they've seen, maybe even PTSD, and that could play into some hurt/comfort.

I love that Scotty is almost immediately loyal to Kirk, and that Kirk absolutely relies on him to get things done - even when Scotty's already resigned. I love how Scotty swings between almost innocent cheerfulness that turns to grumpiness when he feels unappreciated, and the humorous possibilities of that with his charming, flirty, almost reckless captain. Kirk's a good leader, but he's got trauma lurking beneath the surface, and I think Scotty would be kind with that. And they're both brilliant in their own ways.

I love these two and the dynamic they have: working smoothly together, protecting each other in danger, happily declaring their love for each other, bantering, hanging out. They're deeply competitive but deeply loyal, though there's also a fragility to their friendship. They're such different people - smooth, flirty FDR who hides his angsty past, and earnest, romantic Tuck who's longing for love but doesn't know how to find it - but they have such an easy rapport and genuinely like each other. (Except when they don't.)
They also do a lot of terrible things - for their jobs, but also socially - and I'm fine with that being acknowledged, in a "they're the same kind of terrible, and therefore perfect for each other" sort of way. But feel free to ignore that thread.

Edgin is older but not wiser, and prone to taking risks that don't pay off - whereas Kirk seems reckless but his gambles always come through. Kirk tends to hide how clever he is, and Edgin's trying to ignore everything he learned as a Harper. Would they see themselves in each other - and not just because they share a face? Maybe they'd quickly flirt their way into bed, or maybe they'd bond over their angst and the difficulty of protecting people.

Edgin carries a lot of trauma and guilt, whereas Nicholas less so - despite seemingly being an orphan - but maybe they'd bond over their angst, and over wondering what kind of men they really are - or want to be.

Is Xenk equally as convinced of Kirk's brilliance and goodness as he is of Edgin's? And is Kirk more receptive to it? I can see Kirk being the one to get a repressed Xenk to believe he's allowed to have feelings. They both lost family members in traumatic ways as children, so maybe they would bond over that.

I'd love to see what happens when these two meet. Xenk is so kind, but also stoic and takes everything literally. Nicholas is flirty and charming, but actually a little lost, and would maybe appreciate some guidance. He can also give the impression he doesn't care, but he softens easily. Maybe it'd take some urging from Nicholas to get Xenk to open up, or maybe it'd happen naturally if they spent a while together. But with Xenk's traumatic past and Nicholas's family angst, I can see something sweet developing that helps lift both of them up.

I'm imagining this would happen via a timeslip: one of them touches an object or just walks around a corner and finds themselves 200 years in the past/future. Maybe it happens at the palace in Genovia, while Nicholas is staying there - maybe Simon is travelling the continent? Or maybe Nicholas is visiting White's? Or anywhere you think they could reasonably both happen to be.
