All But Romance 2025

Thank you for creating something for me! My username is [archiveofourown.org profile] forsworn. I requested fic or art in seven fandoms. Treats are welcome!

I'm here for gen relationships that are every bit as meaningful, intense, and tropey as romantic ships. Whether it's gentle and comfortable fluff, teasing banter backed by genuine affection, supporting each other through angst, or hurt/comfort with deep platonic intimacy, I welcome it all.

DNWs:
  • 1st or 2nd person POV
  • Smut
  • Noncon
  • Breakups (for & or background / ships)
  • Cheating (for background / ships)
  • Major character death
  • Gore
  • Vore
  • Canon characters explicitly depicted as aromantic or asexual
  • For DNDHAT: Edgin/Holga, Kira/anyone. Past Holga/Marlamin is fine; past Edgin/Zia is fine when set after Zia's death.
  • For Princess Diaries: Nicholas and Mabrey's canonical estrangement is fine

General Likes:
  • Fluff. Domestic fluff. Hopeful spring vibes. Cosy autumn or winter vibes. Rainy evenings in. Lazy sunny mornings. Cooking together, eating together. Playing board games. The daily routines of travelling together longterm.
  • Banter. Found family. Characters showing affection in their own way. Groups amusing themselves with jokes and stories while spending every day together. Characters trusting in each other's skills.
  • Cheek touches. Hand on the back of the neck. Hugs and cuddling. Cheek kisses. Forehead kisses.
  • Angst with a happy ending. Hurt/comfort. Repression and self-denial. Intense sense of duty or loyalty. Complicated family legacies. Self-esteem issues.
  • Dreams and nightmares. Shared dreams. Prophetic dreams. Nightmares of past trauma.
  • Truth spells. Telepathic bonds. Soulbonds, accidental or deliberate.
  • Kidfic, of the canon character being de-aged type. Kidfic, of the having and caring for children type.
  • Forced proximity: stuck in a prison cell together, only one bed, trapped by a cave-in, hiding in a closet, handcuffed together, magic spell, etc.
  • Sparring and combat tutoring. Character A defending character B with character B's weapon.

Art Likes:
  • I enjoy a wide variety of styles: fully rendered paintings, clean lineart, loose sketchy lines, Disney, American comics, anime, chibi, art nouveau, stained glass...
  • Also enjoy most mediums: digital, pencil, ink, markers, watercolours, gouache, charcoal...
  • And lots of colour palettes: realistic colours, bright colours, pastel colours, monochrome, monochrome plus a splash of colour, earthy tones...
  • All of which amounts to: show me your style! Create what you're inspired to create, in the style that feels natural to you.

Hurt/Comfort Likes:
  • Emotional hurt/comfort. Physical hurt/comfort. Whump. Mild hurt/comfort.
  • Nightmares. Flashbacks. Crying. Staying with character B as they fall asleep.
  • Impact bruises. Being manually choked. Twisted ankles.
  • Stab wounds. Arrow wounds. Pulling the arrow out. Nosebleeds as fight injury. Grazes and abrasions.
  • Magical torture, psychic torture, and other kinds of pain inflicted without harming the body.
  • Bedside vigils. Holding injured character close. Carrying or supporting someone who can't walk. Character A catching character B as they collapse (even if character A isn't strong enough to hold them up and just helps slow their descent to the floor). Helping injured character undress, remove armour, etc.
  • Seasickness. Morning sickness. "Oh no, that thing you just ate was poisoned." Vomiting in the context of hurt/comfort - the loss of control, the pain of throwing up, the vulnerability of being seen that way - whether due to nausea, induced by emetic, or induced by fingers (theirs or partner's). Not interested in the vomit itself, though fine to mention it looks/smells/tastes gross.
  • Struggling through sex pollen/an omegaverse heat/etc without having sex, only giving non-sexual comfort for the symptoms.
  • The awkward vulnerability of comfort requiring a new level of intimacy.
  • Stern/gruff characters making tiny gestures as a comforter and the comfortee understanding that significance. A comforter understanding when the comfortee only wants tiny gestures, and the comfortee being grateful for that understanding. People who are comfortable with each other giving and accepting large amounts of comfort.
  • Stoic hurt characters refusing to break down. Stoic hurt characters letting it all out.
  • I love both the hurt and comfort parts of the equation! Go heavy on one part and less on the other, or have an equal mix of both.

Siegfried Farnon & Tristan Farnon & Audrey Hall & Helen Herriot & James Herriot & Jimmy Herriot

I love the found family they have at Skeldale House, especially once they all start looking after baby Jimmy. The way that they support and care for each other, in practical and emotional ways, even if they also frustrate or drop each other into shenanigans - I just have so many feelings about this group. Even during wartime, there's such a cosy mood to the place, a sense that they'll weather everything together, and it'll all turn out okay in the end. (If you want to include some vet work, animal illness and peril is obviously fine, but please no big disasters of the "and then this farmer's entire herd dropped dead" kind.)

You don't need to feature them all equally, I'm fine with the focus being on one or two of them, but I would like them all to at least be passing through. If you want to bring Richard Carmody in as well, you definitely can. Or the dogs! Background James/Helen or Siegfried/Audrey Hall or even Tristan/Carmody are welcome. Just all the found family feels here please, whether cute or silly, or even with an edge of angst or hurt/comfort in the way the show sometimes has.

Narrative Prompts
  • Fluffy daily slice of life, chatting at the breakfast table, or while settling in the living room as a cosy evening closes in.
  • This week's Obstacle has popped up, and they team up to sort it - maybe Helen helping Mrs H with something domestic, or Tristan sweeping in to save James from a frantic morning surgery, or Mrs H prodding Siegfried towards writing a letter.
  • Another veterinary case comes in and it's a real headscratcher. Everyone offers their opinion - not necessarily on the case, or anything useful.
  • Siegfried is Siegfrieding again, and must be gently cajoled into a tender moment.
  • They decide to pass the time by playing a board game. Who cheats? How raucous does it get? Does Jimmy do anything besides giggling and trying to chew the rulebook?

Visual Prompts
  • Everyone clustered around the kitchen table, for breakfast or for dinner, eating or talking or reading the newspaper or spreading jam or pouring gravy or feeding Jimmy or gesticulating wildly or...
  • A calm and cosy evening in the living room, cuddled up on the sofas or sitting by the fire, reading or drinking a brandy or quietly falling asleep or...
  • Another Skeldale Christmas! Crackers, paper hats, a good turkey, and possibly a disagreement.
  • Everyone happily clustering around as baby Jimmy celebrates another birthday.
  • Two of them hugging while the others smile at them - or crowd in to join the embrace.

Doric & Xenk Yendar

We don't really get any focused moments between these two in the film, but Doric actually seems like the least hostile to Xenk from the beginning - ironic considering her stance on humans started as "hateful and selfish" and "just can't help but lie"... but then Xenk and his ridiculous paladin goodness are so obviously the opposite of that! Now that she's decided humans are "okay", I'd love to see her and Xenk become true friends. They have similar outlooks and a lot of similar experiences, so I think they'd really understand each other in ways the others might not.

Narrative Prompts
  • Bonding over being very visibly from groups that are widely hated/mistrusted. Maybe they discuss why they choose not to hide it, and how difficult that can be sometimes. Maybe they talk about the families they lost, and how different their childhoods were.
  • Xenk is one of the few people who actually enjoys how blunt Doric is, and Doric is pleased that he does.
  • Doric in owlbear form is the only one strong enough to carry an injured/unconscious Xenk in full armour.
  • Or maybe Doric finds it easier to express/receive affection in animal form - curling up on Xenk's lap as a cat, nuzzling him, letting him pet her, purring...
  • They get snowed into a cabin, or trapped by a cave in, and have to huddle for warmth. Or they get captured and imprisoned, and cuddle in the cell for comfort. Maybe one of them is even injured?
  • Appreciating the wonders of nature together - the dawn chorus, a beautiful landscape, a starry sky, the first buds of spring, the leaves turning gold...
  • It's Doric's turn to keep watch while everyone else sleeps by the campfire - then Xenk has a nightmare and wakes up visibly distressed. Doric gently calms him down and reassures him.
  • Doric gets injured, and tries to remain stoic as Xenk heals her. Or Xenk gets injured, and can't heal himself - but Doric knows a natural remedy, and the plant grows in this area.
  • Xenk gets downed during a fight and owlbear Doric has to protect him.
  • Maybe their quest requires them to travel by boat - but it turns out Xenk gets really seasick. Doric stays with him, gently rubbing his back, chatting to keep him distracted, emptying the bucket if he throws up, guiding him down to sleep when he's too exhausted to stay awake any more, etc.

Visual Prompts
  • Xenk healing an injured Doric with magic, or Doric applying some herbs to an injured Xenk's wound.
  • Owlbear Doric carrying an injured Xenk, or Xenk carrying an injured Doric.
  • Doric showing Xenk an unusual plant.
  • Walking together as some villagers stare at them.
  • Eating together by the campfire.
  • A gentle hug.
  • Stargazing together.

Edgin Darvis & Holga Kilgore

I can't tell you how excited I was to see a canon male-female relationship that will explicitly only ever be platonic, and yet is vitally important to their lives. I love how they clearly care for and respect each other, despite being so different, and how they use their different skills to achieve their goals together.

I would be happy to see anything about the two of them, set at any point from when they first meet to after the events of the film. Fluff, angst, hurt/comfort... All of it. I just want to see them bantering, working together, protecting each other, being best friends and co-parents. I love seeing little hints of affection peeking through Holga's gruffness, and I love Edgin feeling secure enough to drop his cheerful mask. But I also love them being genuinely happy together.

Narrative Prompts
  • Take pretty much any common trope that fandom does for romantic ships and shove these two into it, but make it aggressively platonic. They get hit with sex pollen but refuse to fuck! Telepathic soulbond but Edgin's only got a song stuck in his head! Fake relationship but Holga refuses to do more than hold hands! Omega Edgin goes into heat but alpha Holga's immune to his pheromones, and she protects him from all other alphas! etc. etc.
  • Holga gets hurt and Edgin has to try and convince her to let him dress the wound. Maybe she initially tries to hide her injury. Or Edgin gets hurt or sick and Holga is his awkward caretaker, little bits of softness slipping through her usually gruff demeanour.
  • "Not fortune found nor fate divine" seems to be Edgin's song of choice for cheering up Holga. Show me another time(s) when he sang it to her. Or maybe one where she sang it to him.
  • Them raising Kira together, whether as a baby, a child or a teen. Teaching her to walk, teaching her to speak, teaching her life skills. Kira's milestones. Celebrating Kira's birthday. Did they ever disagree on how to parent her?
  • Stuck in Revel's End together. Maybe Edgin tries to entertain Holga through the long boring days. Or it's even colder than normal and they have to cuddle for warmth. Maybe they angst together about missing Kira. Maybe Edgin braids Holga's hair for her.
  • Or the other prisoners discover Edgin was a Harper and decide to punish him (with a beating or attempted noncon) and Holga has to rescue him, or prevents it from happening to begin with.

Visual Prompts
  • Laughing and drinking together.
  • One of them helping the other to walk.
  • Huddling for warmth in Revel's End.
  • Family moments with little Kira.
  • Holga comforting Edgin after a nightmare.
  • Handcuffed together.
  • There Was Only One Bed.

Holga Kilgore & Xenk Yendar

Between Holga's natural gruffness, her quick labelling of Xenk as "no fun" and the short amount of screentime they spend together, we don't really get to see these two bonding. I'd love them to move towards friendship and a mutual appreciation of each other, even if Holga only demonstrates that affection through very small gestures. Maybe they'd bond over being the stern, stoic ones - or maybe it's only once the cracks appear in Xenk's unflappable paladin image that Holga begins to understand him. They're both exiles from their families and cultures, so maybe that's something they'd bond over too.

Narrative Prompts
  • Sparring together, working out together. Maybe Xenk tries to go easy on Holga and she baits him into giving everything he's got. Maybe Xenk is just pleased to have someone who can keep up with him.
  • Holga shows Xenk how to have fun, or vice versa. Maybe they discover an activity they would never have appreciated on their own. Or maybe they're not convinced by it, but they learn to understand each other better. Or Xenk is grateful for the time spent together, but not the horrible hangover that results.
  • Cleaning or looking after their weapons together. Maybe Xenk also appreciates the work of Ghelryn Foehammer. Maybe Xenk once saved Ghelryn Foehammer!
  • Xenk asks Holga about the story behind her tattoos.
  • Holga gets injured and Xenk has to convince her to let him heal her.
  • Xenk teaches Holga some Thayan swear words. (Presumably more literal ones.)
  • I'd love some forced proximity or forced intimacy tropes, done platonically. Magically handcuffed together, requiring them to respect each other's different needs and approaches? Accidental soulbond reveals all their worries and insecurities to each other, resulting in some gentle understanding? Just something where they can't escape each other, and initial frustration turns to a more vulnerable honesty.
  • Omega Xenk goes into heat and alpha Holga looks after him. It's not that they find each other repulsive, they just have zero urge to fuck - so Holga's alpha scent comforts Xenk instead of arouses him. Maybe she curls a hand over the back of his neck to trigger an instinctive calming response; maybe Holga even puts aside her dislike of hugs to hold a panting and trembling Xenk close.

Visual Prompts
  • Cooking food on a campfire.
  • Sparring together.
  • Maintaining their weapons together.
  • Protecting each other in battle.
  • Enjoying a meal or a drink in a tavern.
  • Xenk healing an injured Holga.
  • Holga helping an injured Xenk walk.

Simon Aumar & Kira Darvis

The party have such a great found family vibe, and I've always been interested in how that manifests between Simon and Kira specifically. It's not clear exactly how long Simon was with them before Korinn's Keep, but it could easily have been a couple of years, maybe more. I tend to imagine him filling a big brother type role for her; maybe she was even young enough that Simon's fail sorcery seemed impressive to her? Now they're reunited post-canon, she's a little older, maybe carrying some trauma but definitely still vulnerable - even if she tries to pretend otherwise. How has their dynamic changed with Simon's newfound confidence?

Narrative Prompts
  • When they were travelling thieves, these two were living their daily lives together. Show me some of the little moments between them: eating together in a tavern, foraging for berries in the wilds, relaxing by the campfire, practising tricks - or trying those tricks for real. Or what about the bigger milestones, like birthdays?
  • Simon seems to have been homeless at the start of the film. Did he ever get invited to stay at the cottage in Targos? Does he get an invite now? Would he get to spend cosy and comfortable hours playing board games with Kira, or would she gently have to reassure a nervous Simon that he was welcome in their home?
  • Now that Kira's older and the gang are heroes, what kinds of adventures do they have together? Is she trying to figure out what class she wants to be - does she ask Simon to help her attempt magic? Do they get the chance to face a dungeon together, just the two of them, and turn out to be a great team? Maybe they get captured, and awkward Simon has to step up to reassure Kira and keep her calm, even as she insists she's definitely too young to be afraid any more...
  • Or what about an AU where Edgin left Kira in Simon's care instead of Forge's? I can imagine him struggling to be the protector she needs, even as their losses and loyalty bind them together.
  • There are so many possibilities with Simon doing magic. Little Kira being awed by the sparkly visuals of some basic magic, giving Simon's ego a boost? Unconfident Simon struggling with a spell, and practical Kira dropping a few words of innocent advice - which turn out to be exactly what he needed? Kira asking newly confident sorcerer Simon to teach her some spells, and see if she has the talent for it? Maybe she turns out to be magically gifted, even bursting out a spell before being taught anything, and now she needs Simon to tutor her in honing it? Maybe his wild magic causes something funny and silly to happen to them both?
  • Or what about some animal transformation shenanigans? Maybe Simon accidentally turns himself into a cute animal, and Kira has to hide him/help him change back. (Maybe she can't help cooing over how soft his fur is, and Simon's melting of embarrassment but can't help enjoying the pettings.) Maybe Simon accidentally transforms Kira instead, and desperately tries to change her back before Edgin or Holga find out - or before Kira's gleeful excitement causes too much chaos!
  • Did Kira ever use her invisibility necklace to tease Simon? Does she, like her father, ask Simon to carry things in his bag of holding for her? Maybe she doesn't, but he delights her by always having what she needs in there - or at least a few snacks.
  • Kira spent two years with Forge and without Edgin and Holga, and that's something that can leave a shadow. Simon has struggled a lot with his family legacy, and I like the idea he's the sole sorcerer in a family of brilliant wizards. Maybe they could have a soft moment as they have a serious discussion about their families?

Visual Prompts
  • A young Kira smiling and gasping in awe as Simon demonstrates some sparkly magic.
  • Simon braiding Kira's hair for her.
  • Laughing as they play games at a faire.
  • Simon hugging Kira in a dingy cell.
  • Playing a board game or card game together.
  • Kira laughing and Simon baffled as he pulls an odd and unexpected object from his bag of holding.
  • Chatting together by the campfire.

Kira Darvis & Xenk Yendar

I'm fine with this being either in the context of background Xenk/Edgin or just Xenk joining the party and becoming their friend. I want all the super soft platonic or familial feelings here, with maybe a bit of angst due to Kira's time with Forge.

How long does it take Kira to trust Xenk? How much of Edgin's hatred of Thayans did she pick up? Does her experience with Forge - a man she trusted because Edgin trusted him, who then turned on her - affect how willing she is to believe in Xenk's goodness, or in Edgin's declaration of Xenk's goodness? Does she no longer trust her own assessment of people? Does Xenk have to work hard to reassure her... or is his innate goodness so incredibly obvious that actually she trusts him quite quickly?

Narrative Prompts
  • Playing a game where Kira turns invisible and Xenk has to use his super hearing to figure out where she is. Or a board game. Or a snowball fight!
  • Xenk protects Kira during a battle when her invisibility fails - or when they get separated from the others during a quest, and have to overcome obstacles to reunite with the party.
  • Kira receives a minor injury (something like a graze or a small cut, nothing big please!) and Xenk is very kind and gentle as he heals it for her.
  • They get captured and imprisoned together. Xenk tries to keep Kira calm and safe while they wait for the others to rescue them, reassuring her, protecting her, finding ways to pass the time, keeping her warm...
  • Or Xenk gets imprisoned, and Kira uses her necklace to sneak in and tell him the escape plan. Or deliver the key to his cell.
  • Is Xenk concerned about Kira's moral compass, considering she was brought up among a gang of thieves? Does he try to influence her towards goodness, the way he does with her father? Or maybe Kira is surprised by Xenk's morality, like the fact he is prepared to steal as long as it's for X reason.
  • Edgin's birthday is coming up, so Xenk and Kira go shopping for presents together.
  • They've been walking for hours and Kira is exhausted. Xenk gives her a piggyback. Maybe she even falls asleep up there.
  • Show me how Xenk's relationship with Kira develops if he starts dating Edgin, or even marries him. She already has two mothers, a father, and had an "uncle", so I don't really see her being upset by him joining the family. But is he surprised the first time she hugs him? How long before he feels comfortable giving her a kiss on the forehead? What does she go to him for advice about? Is he the "strict" parent? Or, having not known her as a young child, is he more ready to give her responsibility appropriate to her age than Edgin and Holga, who maybe haven't quite accepted she's growing up? Or just some adorable domestic fluff about a normal day at the cottage in Targos.

Visual Prompts
  • Playing a board game together.
  • Xenk braiding Kira's hair for her - or her helping him retwist his locs.
  • Kira has a minor injury; Xenk heals her.
  • Xenk helping Kira climb a steep slope.
  • Xenk reading to Kira.
  • A gentle hug.

Simon Aumar & Xenk Yendar

In the film, Simon mostly seems to get on Xenk's nerves (being sarcastic! destroying the bridge!) but he's not doing it on purpose and I really think if they spent more time together they could become good friends. Despite his initial jealousy, Simon is eager for Xenk to stay at the end. But maybe Simon worries that Xenk doesn't like him, or doesn't respect him? And Xenk isn't great at social interaction, so he might not realise Simon feels that way, or might not know how to explain that he actually does care. Potentially some angst there, but I'd also love some fluff.

I imagine them both to be quite nerdy: Simon in a "likes to know a bit about everything" way, Xenk more specifically interested in history and puzzles. Maybe they could find common ground in geeking out about some artifact or old book they discover, or just having a good chat about some fascinating information. (I don't think anyone else in the party would be that interested, so they'd probably both be like finally! Someone who gets it!) Or a hurt/comfort situation results in some gentle caretaking while one of them is vulnerable?

Narrative Prompts
  • Xenk tries to teach Simon some combat skills so he can defend himself if he runs out of spell slots/his wild magic misfires/he gets cuffed again.
  • Simon worries that Xenk doesn't like him. Xenk surprises him with a thoughtful gift, perhaps a rare tome on sorcery.
  • Xenk doesn't want to bother Simon with the Heavy Object he's carrying. He can manage! He doesn't want to impose! Everyone else might make Simon carry things, but he won't! And Simon has to convince Xenk that using his bag of holding is the most sensible option all around.
  • Simon gets injured in battle and Xenk heals him. Or Xenk is sick/injured, and Simon watches over him while he's unconscious.
  • Or maybe Simon injures himself and then tries to hide it because he's embarrassed about how it happened. But Xenk figures it out and insists on healing him.
  • There's a cave-in but Simon uses his shield spell to protect the two of them. Xenk has to keep Simon calm so the spell stays up long enough for owlbear Doric to smash through the rubble.
  • Or they get trapped by a cave in, or snowed into a cabin, and have to huddle for warmth. Or they get captured and imprisoned, and cuddle in the cell for comfort. Maybe one of them is even injured?
  • Simon's always thought of Xenk as this unflappable, invulnerable paladin. But one night, while Simon's on watch as everyone else sleeps by the campfire, Xenk has a nightmare and wakes up visibly distressed. Now Simon has to offer reassurance to a vulnerable Xenk.
  • Maybe their quest requires them to travel by boat - but it turns out Xenk gets really seasick. Simon stays with him, gently rubbing his back, making awkward jokes to keep him distracted, or rambling about magic, emptying the bucket if Xenk throws up, helping Xenk to sip some water, etc.

Visual Prompts
  • Simon looking sheepish as his magic misfires again.
  • Xenk grabbing Simon's hand to stop him falling in a chasm.
  • Having an excited chat.
  • Xenk healing an injured Simon.
  • One of them helping the other walk.
  • Simon asleep with his head on Xenk's shoulder. Maybe leaning against the wall of a prison cell, or while on a long cart ride, or simply sitting on a log by the campfire or in a booth at a tavern.

Simon Aumar & Edgin Darvis & Kira Darvis & Doric & Holga Kilgore & Xenk Yendar

I love the found family that the party develop over the course of the film, and really want to see Kira and Xenk included in that as they all adventure together. I'm looking for banter, tender feelings, protectiveness, and/or the interplay between everyone's different personalities. Fluff, angst, action-adventure and hurt/comfort are all great!

Narrative Prompts
  • Domestic life when your home is on the road. Sitting around the campfire, eating, joking, telling ghost stories or stories of past adventures, Edgin singing and the others joining in (or not). Exploring the market in a new town, sampling the local food, drinking in a tavern. Banter, comfortable friendship, soft found family feels.
  • They get ambushed by a Red Wizard/gnolls/bullywugs/whatever. Roll initiative! The party has to band together to protect each other and get out of there.
  • Dungeon delving! You don't have to cover the entire quest (unless you want to), I'd be excited for a single scene where they solve a puzzle, overcome a trap, get hopelessly lost and bicker about it, etc. Or maybe they accidentally spring a trap, again. Or they get their hands on the artifact and it doesn't do what they expected!
  • It's time for Insert Seasonal Festival! Who loves the traditions, who hates them, who's never heard of them? Is it celebrated differently in Triboar than in Thay, among the Elk Tribe compared to the wood elves? Maybe someone eats too much, maybe someone hates the taste of the traditional food. Maybe someone's really good at the traditional game - or really bad at it. Maybe someone's excited to celebrate the day in a new way, or maybe seeing everyone celebrating it in a different way makes them homesick. An excuse for soft fluff, silly shenanigans or a bit of angst.
  • Or it's someone's birthday! Who is it, how old are they, what presents do they get? Do they love birthdays, do they hate them, have they tried to keep it secret?
  • Simon's wild magic misfires and causes chaos. You can either pick something from the official list or come up with something suitably comedic/dramatic.
  • They arrive in a town that has a potato shortage and must go on a Quest to find a potato for Holga.
  • Edgin knits presents for everyone. They're a bit lumpy, but they're made with love.
  • Any/all of the magic users trying to teach Kira how to do magic.
  • Doric sitting on laps as a cat, or providing a big warm bundle to cuddle up to as an owlbear.
  • The party find out what actually happened to Xenk's family during the Beckoning Death - and how traumatic it was for him - when a spell recreates his worst memory in front of them. Or maybe he magically gets de-aged back into that little boy, and the only thing he remembers from the intervening years is how to speak Common.
  • One of them gets injured, and the others all show their concern in their own way. Maybe Xenk can heal them quickly - or maybe he's run out of spells for the day, and the group has to keep the injured person comfortable until they can be healed. Or Xenk has been cuffed, and they have to protect the injured person while also escaping from danger.

Visual Prompts
  • Sitting around a campfire together: laughing, joking, telling stories, Edgin playing his lute, and/or eating together.
  • Helping each other to cross a trapped dungeon floor.
  • Huddling for warmth.
  • Protecting each other in battle.
  • Enjoying a meal and a drink in a tavern.
  • Exploring a new town together.
  • Enjoying a festival together.
  • Helping each other put on disguises as they prepare to go undercover.
  • All helping to look after one of them, who's injured.

Jake Hardin & Katy Hardin

These two have such an adorable brother-sister type relationship. It's never actually specified how they're related, but it seems like he's either her cousin or her uncle? But he's so sweet and soft with her, and there's such genuine affection between them. They've clearly bonded over their shared bad luck, with Jake reassuring and encouraging Katy, and using all the tricks he's learned to solve little problems for her. But they're also happy just to hang out, and it seems like they both really enjoy that casual domesticity. I would love something fluffy and cute, whether pre-canon or post-canon or a missing scene - or maybe some mild hurt/comfort or with an edge of angst, dealing with the effects of their bad luck. Or how do things go now that Katy has good luck? (Background Jake/Ashley is welcome.)

Narrative Prompts
  • Some slice of life fluff, with the two of them hanging out together - eating pizza, playing laser tag, drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows, Jake helping Katy with her homework...
  • Jake cheers Katy up after another tough day at school, or when she's having an angsty moment about being so unlucky.
  • Katy had a little disaster, and now her hair is covered with slime or something else goopy and gross. Jake gently leans her over a sink and helps her wash it out.
  • The two of them try to play a board game, but every single roll they both make is a 1. Maybe they still find it fun, and just enjoy the time together. Maybe they try to think up new rules to make it more interesting. Maybe they switch to playing something with cards instead. Or what about once Katy has good luck, and she keeps rolling 6s while Jake is still rolling 1s?
  • Jake had a bad luck moment, and now he's bruised his ribs/twisted his ankle/something similar. Katy brings him a bag of frozen peas or another useful thing and tries to cheer him up.
  • The two of them decide to bake some cookies together. Of course it ends up being messy and going wrong somewhere - but maybe the results are still delicious?
  • I'm so fascinated by how luck works in this film and I'd love some worldbuilding for it. It seems like bad luck runs in their family. How much do they know about it? What happens at family occasions when everyone's together, e.g. Christmas, Thanksgiving? Or maybe everyone else in their family is normal, and being the two that get dunked on by the universe is why they've bonded so strongly?

Visual Prompts
  • Eating pizza together on the sofa.
  • Jake showing Katy the contents of his backpack, or using it to patch up a mild injury of hers.
  • A gentle hug.
  • Wearing party hats, Santa hats, or dressing up for Halloween. Or exchanging presents.
  • Both of them covered in flour after a baking disaster.
  • Katy holding an umbrella above Jake's head, as a localised rainstorm showers on him and not her.

Marjorie Bruce & Elizabeth de Burgh

I have so many feelings about the bond these two develop, and I love how much the narrative legitimises it. "You are Marjorie's and she is yours." Just omfg. Feel free to set your work any time from them first bonding, to Elizabeth looking after Marjorie while they're on the run/kept captive, being reunited, or as Marjorie grows up... Whether Elizabeth is playing with Marjorie, singing to her, comforting her, teaching her, whatever, I just love how much they love each other. Feel free to include Robert too!

Narrative Prompts
  • I loved how quickly and intensely they bonded. That first moment with Elizabeth asking about Jessie the dog was so sweet and tender. But what other moments did they have on the journey to forging that bond? When was the first time Elizabeth's heart swelled in Marjorie's presence? The first time Marjorie sought Elizabeth out instead of her previous favourite? Their first hug?
  • Them chasing each other around the castle was so cute too. I'd love to see them playing more games like that, whether tag or hide and seek or similar. Maybe a fun little roleplay, imagining they're slaying dragons? Or playing dress-up with Elizabeth's clothes?
  • Or playing games with, taking care of, or relaxing with Jessie. Maybe trying to teach him a new trick? Or just stroking him together as they sit by the fire.
  • How many times has Elizabeth sung Bonny At Morn to Marjorie as she drifted off to sleep? What about when she was awake? Does Elizabeth teach the song to Marjorie - or did Marjorie already know it, and they like to sing it together? What about other songs? Maybe Marjorie made up a song of her own and got Elizabeth to join in.
  • If you want to do something angstier, how about a fic set while they're on the run - or after they've been captured. Maybe Marjorie is upset by thoughts of what could be happening to her father, even has a nightmare about it, and Elizabeth gently comforts her. Or maybe Elizabeth finds ways to distract Marjorie and keep her occupied while they're locked up. Or Elizabeth herself takes comfort from holding Marjorie close.
  • On the beach, Robert said Marjorie was waiting for Elizabeth. Show me their happy reunion.
  • I'd love something that shows their bond continuing to grow after the film too, as Marjorie grows up. Maybe Elizabeth counselling Marjorie about some worry? Teaching her something? Even just reading to her. Or still enjoying hugs, even as Marjorie gets older.
  • In real life, Elizabeth and Robert had more children together. Was Marjorie excited about having some siblings? Maybe she was awed by feeling the baby kick inside Elizabeth's belly. What about the moment Elizabeth introduced the newborn to Marjorie?

Visual Prompts
  • Elizabeth reading a bedtime story to Marjorie, or singing her to sleep, or stroking her hair as she drifts off.
  • Playing tag in the castle.
  • Elizabeth hugging a worried Marjorie tight. Or happy cuddles in safer times.
  • Stroking or playing with Jessie the dog together.
  • Elizabeth braiding Marjorie's hair - or vice versa.

Mia Thermopolis & Clarisse Renaldi

These two are so different even as they approach the same job: refined Clarisse, polished and polite at all times, so used to living as a public figure; clumsy Mia, earnest and caring, still learning how to be a different sort of queen. But they're both committed to their duty and to Genovia, whatever that means to them. Their relationship can be so sweet and lovely, but there's also that tension of mentorship, and the question of whether they are (or should be) acting as queen and princess - or grandmother and granddaughter.

It takes them a little time to understand each other, but once they do they're undoubtedly family. And once Mia is in Genovia (and her mother is still in America), Clarisse becomes her primary female role model. Again, there's a pressure to that, with unsure Mia looking up to Clarisse as she attempts to emulate her - but also for Clarisse, trying to guide this young woman she both cares for and believes in, who often needs more than the polite words Clarisse is used to offering. But beneath that, there's such affection, a close bond between two women who share a status that nobody else has claim to. How will their dynamic change now that Mia is queen and Clarisse has retired?

Feel free to set this anywhere from those very first princess lessons, between the two films, during the second one, or beyond, as their relationship continues to grow. Background Clarisse/Joe and Mia/Nicholas are very welcome - I'd love to see some family moments, maybe as Mia has children. But also the two of them at royal events, whether Clarisse is being a stern mentor or a soft grandma.

Narrative Prompts
  • I always liked the idea that, once Mia was revealed as an heir, she started spending (at least part of) her summers in Genovia, immersing herself in the culture, learning all the requirements of her role, learning to love the country - and the people - she would one day rule. And of course Clarisse would need to guide her through that, teaching Mia the many protocols and traditions, but also introducing her to Genovian culture - and its baffling yet endearing obsession with pears.
  • Or more of Mia introducing Clarisse to American culture and traditions! The corndog scene was so cute and fun. Does Mia share more unfamiliar (vegetarian) foods? Take Clarisse to touristy places - or the little bolt holes that only locals know? How often does Mia use slang that she then has to explain to Clarisse - and does Clarisse sometimes pick it up, like when she exclaimed "shut up!" in parliament?
  • Maybe something a little angsty, as Mia messes up again, and Clarisse has to switch to grandma mode to gently reassure her.
  • Or show me the next stage of their relationship, as Mia grows into being queen, with retired Clarisse now a guest at a royal event. Is Clarisse quietly proud as Mia (almost) effortlessly handles things, encouraging Clarisse to relax and sip some champagne? Does Mia still need a few wise words from the woman who's done it all, whispered in between Mia dealing with complicated interactions?
  • Or show me them away from the prying eyes of the public. Relaxing in a royal suite, maybe watching a film together, or just chatting before an event begins. Clarisse helping Mia to choose the right dress and jewellery for a royal ball. Eating breakfast or drinking tea together. Just the little moments of daily life.
  • And what about the bigger moments, like celebrating Christmas? Do they eat Christmas dinner together, or play charades, or exchange gifts? Or what about birthdays? Or a unique Genovian celebration? And does Clarisse help Mia plan her wedding to Nicholas?
  • I'd also love to see Mia have children with Nicholas - and Clarisse get the opportunity to be a fond great-grandmother to them! Is her polished advice a little more strained when delivered to a giggling and marmalade-covered five year old? Were all her public speeches great practice for reading a picture book aloud, allowing Mia to sneak a little nap beside her? Or, now that she no longer needs to be a dignified queen, is Clarisse even more ready to indulge in things like mattress surfing? How emotional was the moment when Mia first introduced Clarisse to the newborn?

Visual Prompts
  • Eating (pear-flavoured) popcorn from the same bowl as they watch a movie in the palace's private cinema.
  • Clarisse demonstrating an elegant dance step as Mia less-elegantly copies her.
  • Sitting next to each other in the palace kitchen, Clarisse daintily eating ice cream from a bowl as Mia chows down on it straight from the tub.
  • Clarisse gently squeezing Mia's hand.
  • A proud Mia introduces Clarisse to her first great-grandchild.
  • Clarisse handing Mia an ornament to place on the palace Christmas tree.
  • A warm hug.
  • Clarisse resting a hand on an upset Mia's shoulder.

Mia Thermopolis & Fat Louie

Fat Louie doesn't get to do much in the films, but I would love to see more cuteness between them. Could be adorable fluff with Mia stroking, playing with, or giving treats to Fat Louie. Or maybe some hurt/comfort, with Louie trying to cheer up a sad or sick Mia? Any time from her first getting him, through high school, moving to Genovia, or once she's queen! I love that he gets his own tiara and his own royal cushion. Background Mia/Nicholas is welcome too - and if you want to attempt Louie POV, go ahead.

Narrative Prompts
  • Any gentle fluff about the fun and affection between owner and pet. Could be the things I mentioned above - playtime, treats, stroking. Or any other normal cat things. Louie demanding attention while Mia tries to do her homework, or read an economic report? Louie waking Mia up by headbutting her? Or falling asleep snuggled into her voluminous frizzy hair? Just. Slice of life cat cuteness.
  • Show me Fat Louie's presence woven into Mia's queenly life in Genovia - whether sitting beside her at royal events, slinking in for a nuzzle when she has a break between meetings, or cuddling up at the end of a long day.
  • Or what about the parts of life that aren't about her being royal - how does Mia include Louie in Christmas celebrations, or her birthday, or visits from her half-brother or...
  • Maybe some hurt/comfort, with Fat Louie providing purrs and snuggles when Mia's down, whether she's struggling with the dilemmas of the second film, or with the pressures of being queen, or whatever else.
  • In a post-canon setting where Mia marries Nicholas, I'd love to see Mia encouraging Fat Louie to bond with their children!

Visual Prompts
  • Mia cuddling Fat Louie to her chest, or against her shoulder.
  • Fat Louie drinking a saucer of milk and Mia eating ice cream in the palace kitchen.
  • Mia grinning as she bends down to place a matching tiara on Louie's head.
  • Louie curling up in Mia's lap, on the sofa or on the throne.
  • Mia laughing as Louie hunts a feather on a stick.
  • Fat Louie nuzzling in as Mia scritches his chin, or behind his ears, or strokes his fur.

Mia Thermopolis & Joseph

Joe can be stern, even fierce, but he's clearly so fond of Mia. I love that he calls her "my girl" while warning Mabrey away. From her initial awkwardness, they develop such a gentle relationship, with Joe protecting Mia physically but also emotionally - guiding her with his wise words, their bond growing stronger as she grows and blossoms. In the first film, she tries to call him Joey, and he insists, no, Joe - but by the second film, he offers to let her call him Joey, and she says no, Joe. She's earned the affection to be allowed it, and he's earned the respect to have that refused. And nobody bats an eye at Joe calling Mia "my dear". They're just so sweet together. He was almost like a grandfather to her - and now that he's married Clarisse, he officially is!

I'd love to see these two from when they first grew close, to between the films, during the second film, or beyond - how does their relationship change now that Joe is retired, no longer an employee but very much part of the family? Background Joe/Clarisse and Mia/Nicholas are very welcome - I'd love to see Joe as Mia's grandfather, as she settles into being queen, maybe has children with Nicholas. But I also love Joe offering advice and support to struggling princess Mia.

Narrative Prompts
  • Some fluff would be great, with Joe being fond and proud as Mia deals with royal business, maybe him sneaking a dance with princess Mia at a ball to remind her how well she's doing, or making sassy comments about difficult guests as queen Mia breezes through a meet-and-greet.
  • Or maybe something with an edge of angst, even hurt/comfort, as Mia struggles with her confidence or with the endless formalities of an event - and Joe steps in close to quietly offer some advice, or encouragement, or a reminder of the protocol, helping to calm her down.
  • Maybe some actual hurt/comfort, with Mia twisting an ankle while dancing at a ball - or simply trying to hurry down some steps - and Joe gently sliding an arm around her to support her, helping her to a seat or to the car, making sure the footmen bring ice, reassuring her she's not causing a scene, and so on.
  • Or a soft family moment, whether that's Joe (and Clarisse) visiting the palace to see Mia. Or joining her in the royal suite after everyone else has left a banquet. Or a private moment at Christmas, or her birthday, or his - whether they're sharing a special meal, or exchanging presents, or just getting to relax together on a sofa.
  • Mia needs an heir, and I'd love her to have kids with Nicholas - and for Joe to get to spend time with his great-grandchildren, being just as kind and protective of them as he is of Mia, whether that's an emotional moment as Mia introduces the newborn, or as she tries to prevent a talkative child demanding piggybacks from great-grandpa.

Visual Prompts
  • Dancing together at a ball.
  • Queen Mia presenting Joe with a long-service medal.
  • Joe holding young princess Mia's hand, helping her jump over a puddle.
  • A tender hug.
  • A proud Mia introducing Joe to his first great-grandchild.
  • Joe resting his hand on a worried Mia's shoulder, or curling an arm around her shoulders.
  • Exchanging Christmas presents.
  • Joe catching Mia as she almost wobbles over.

Nicholas Devereaux & Clarisse Renaldi

I love that scene in the kitchen, where Clarisse is questioning Nicholas about why he opposes Mia. He seems very respectful towards Clarisse, calling her Majesty, answering her earnestly - but he doesn't seem intimidated by her, he seems very relaxed and comfortable in her presence. And not just because he's wearing an apron and putting the finishing touches to a cake! Clarisse is always polite with everyone, but there's a frisson of sincerity as she insists on her belief in Mia and Mia's good qualities. And it's here Nicholas first reveals that his opposition to Mia's rule (unlike his uncle's motivation) is based not on a hunger for power, not on a belief that Mia isn't bright or sensitive or caring enough, simply that he's concerned she doesn't know the Genovian people like he does - and even Clarisse has to concede that's true, establishing a respect and understanding between them as the scene ends. And there's a napkin with a clean spoon on it beside Clarisse too - I love the implication that they then ate that cake together! How adorably domestic.

There are plenty of missing scenes you could do for these two during the second film, when Nicholas is living at the palace - or maybe even a pre-canon meeting between a younger Nicholas and queen Clarisse at a royal event. But an aspect that really intrigues me is the relationship between Nicholas and Clarisse in the context of Nicholas as Mia's consort. We see how immense the pressures and scrutiny upon the royals are. And Clarisse is the one figure who has been both consort and ruler. I think she more than anyone would understand the challenges Nicholas has to face, as a man schooled to be king but choosing to be consort. He knows all of the rules, the traditions, the expectations of the monarch - but I doubt he ever considered what's required of the consort.

I like the idea that Clarisse could mentor Nicholas, in the same way she mentors Mia - as well as being a caring grandmother figure for him. Nicholas seemingly has no family left besides Mabrey, was seemingly raised by him - and now Nicholas has rejected Mabrey, leaving him with no one. As far as we can tell he has no female family in his life at all. (Except maybe Gretchen, Mabrey's housekeeper.) And Clarisse can be a polished stateswoman, a political advisor yet slightly aloof, but when she senses the need she can also put that aside to provide a deep and genuine warmth. I think Nicholas would value all of that - maybe more than he expects to. And I'd love a familial fondness to develop on both sides. Background Mia/Nicholas and Clarisse/Joe both welcome here.

Narrative Prompts
  • Did they eat that cake together? Was Clarisse impressed? What did they talk about, once the conversation had moved on from Mia? Or show me another time Nicholas baked something for Clarisse to eat - while he was a rival at the palace, or once he was consort, maybe even for Christmas or a birthday?
  • Nicholas grew up in Genovia, and presumably inherited his noble title when he was six. Did he ever meet Clarisse at a royal event before the second film? Maybe she offered a polite smile or some gentle words to a teenage Nicholas, overwhelmed by his first formal outing. Maybe she formally invested him with his title when he turned 18, or 21. Maybe he tagged along with Mabrey to a session of parliament. Nicholas seems to respect Clarisse - is that from watching her on TV, or due to their first meeting? Did he look up to her as an example? Maybe they even met before Mia was publicly announced as the heir...
  • I already mentioned Clarisse mentoring consort Nicholas - but Clarisse mentoring consort Nicholas. Could be something soft and fluffy, giving him tips for one of Genovia's weird pear-based traditions. Could be a little angsty, with Nicholas worrying about his capability, maybe after a run-in with Mabrey. Could have a hurt/comfort vibe, maybe after something has gone wrong - maybe Mia twisted her ankle at a ball, and Nicholas blames himself, and now Mia is resting while Nicholas attends the event in her place - and Clarisse quietly offers some supportive words. Could just be some slice of life, with Clarisse reminding Nicholas of each stage of a complicated event, as he tries to perform it as consort for the first time.
  • Or maybe Nicholas is a polished consort, and the two of them simply get to enjoy a royal event together - maybe he asks Clarisse to dance at a ball, or they're seated together at a banquet, or he rescues her from a boring diplomat at a garden party (or she rescues him).
  • Or the two of them in private, having a sweet family moment. Maybe retired Clarisse is simply visiting the palace, and chats with Nicholas for a while. Maybe after a formal lunch, Clarisse joins Nicholas (and Mia?) in the royal suite for a private catch-up. Maybe Nicholas is looking after the children while Mia is queening, and Clarisse pops in to help. Maybe it's Christmas, and they eat Christmas dinner together, or open presents, or he pours her a sherry while the others bustle. Maybe it's his birthday, or hers, or another celebration or tradition. Just a quiet moment between the two of them at a significant time.

Visual Prompts
  • Nicholas in his apron, serving Clarisse a dessert.
  • Clarisse presenting Nicholas with one of the sashes, badges, or medals that he wears in the film.
  • Dancing together at a ball.
  • Walking the palace gardens together, maybe during a garden party.
  • A proud Nicholas presenting Clarisse with her great-grandchild.
  • Clarisse gently resting a hand on a worried Nicholas's shoulder.
  • Exchanging Christmas presents, or admiring the palace Christmas tree together.

Nicholas Devereaux & Fat Louie

Fat Louie doesn't get to do much in the films, but I would love to see some cuteness between them. Whether it's adorable fluff with Nicholas stroking Fat Louie, soft drama as Nicholas earns a wary Louie's trust, or even hurt/comfort with Louie trying to cheer up a sad or sick Nicholas, I'd just love some kitty stuff between them.

Some of my prompts are in the context of Mia/Nicholas - and post-canon Nicholas&Louie can only really happen in that context - but Nicholas spent most of the second film hanging around the palace and gardens, so there'd be plenty of opportunity for interactions with Fat Louie there. (Though if you do want to create something about Nicholas bonding with his girlfriend/fiancee/wife's cat, I would obviously welcome that.) Even when he was Mia's rival, I don't see any reason for Nicholas to treat Louie unkindly - or for Fat Louie to care who Nicholas is to Mia. Though I am also open to Fat Louie having psychic cat senses, knowing Nicholas is a rival, and treating him accordingly - till Nicholas earnestly gains his trust. I'm definitely looking for a cute, positive vibe here, so I don't want something all about Louie hating Nicholas, but hating Nicholas and then loving him is fine. (And also very cat.)

Narrative Prompts
  • Fat Louie encounters Nicholas while he's a rival at the palace. Maybe Louie just curiously checks out this new person who's hanging around all the time, sniffing Nicholas as he sits on a garden bench. Maybe Louie is suspicious of him - but Nicholas wins Fat Louie over with some excellent chin scritches. Maybe Nicholas is having an angsty moment, beginning to question if this plan is the right course - and Louie decides to snuggle into his lap.
  • Or maybe Nicholas is baking, all alone in the kitchen, when Louie slinks in looking for some milk or some attention. And Nicholas is happy to provide that, enjoying having a companion.
  • Maybe Maurice the dog is chasing Fat Louie again - and he flees to the safety of Nicholas. Does he already trust Nicholas, and cling to his chest as he holds him? Is Fat Louie suspicious of Nicholas - but gambles that the human is better than the dog, and when Nicholas protects him from Maurice, Louie is thoroughly won over?
  • Or maybe Louie is too busy begging scritches from the footmen and treats from the actual cooks to pay much attention to Nicholas before he becomes Mia's partner. But now this strange man keeps hanging around with Louie's mistress, cuddling up to her, and Louie has to investigate. And Nicholas is determined to win him over - with pettings, with play, or with as many treats as he can reasonably offer.
  • Some cute fluff once Louie is comfortable with Nicholas would be great too. Maybe Nicholas takes a break to sit down for five minutes between royal appointments, and Louie decides to claim his lap. Maybe they have regular playtime together. Maybe Nicholas stays home with the kids and has to referee interactions between them - keeping Louie safe from tiny sticky hands, or keeping waddling toddlers safe from an overly affectionate feline friend. Or Nicholas just waking up to cat butt in his face. Whatever.
  • Some hurt/comfort would be great too. Whether it's Nicholas questioning if he should try for the crown, or consort Nicholas struggling with his role, or Nicholas missing Mabrey, or... Fat Louie is the perfect distraction, and stroking a nuzzling cat works wonders.

Visual Prompts
  • Nicholas sitting on a bench in the palace gardens, trying to read or eat an apple, as Fat Louie slinks up beside him, biffs his book, tries to chomp his apple, or just decides Nicholas's lap is his new cushion.
  • Nicholas in the palace kitchen, wearing his blue apron, serving a saucer of milk to Fat Louie.
  • Fat Louie hunting a feather on a stick which Nicholas is waving.
  • Nicholas protectively holds Fat Louie against his chest as a disappointed Maurice looks on.
  • Fat Louie wearing his tiara, as Nicholas adjusts his own consort's diadem - or a paper hat at Christmas.
  • Nicholas scritching Louie under the chin, maybe using his other hand to loosen his tie after a long day.

Nicholas Devereaux & Joseph

I think there's potential for such a sweet and supportive relationship here. Joe is steady, wise, often stern but soft for some, fiercely loyal and protective. And I think he sees what Nicholas could be, understands that this young man is brilliant but adrift, torn between love and power - but would that power really be in Nicholas's hands, when Mabrey seems intent on pulling the strings? Nicholas has lost his father, been manipulated by his uncle... Maybe Joe could be the (grand)father figure he needs.

I think the only direct interaction between them is that moment in the stable, which I will now overanalyse for three paragraphs. Nicholas kindly brings Mia her hat and then less kindly teases her, and Joe arrives just in time to watch a crying Mia tell Nicholas to leave her alone - and Joe understandably interrupts... but if you look very closely, it's at this point Nicholas pulls a handkerchief from his pocket - except Joe's arrival means Nicholas never gets to give it to Mia. This moment feels like a subtle but important shift for Nicholas, acting as both rival and suitor to Mia, deciding which path he'll follow in the future. And Joe's line really highlights that conflict: "Nicholas, am I going to be disappointed in you?"

And I think that one line says so much about how Joe views Nicholas, about what they could be to each other. It is not a statement. It's a question, leaving open the possibility that Joe could be pleased with Nicholas - the perceptive head of security has been watching this young man, watching all these machinations and grasping towards the crown, and he sees two paths before Nicholas. And it's so gently delivered, backed by the tension of deep emotion - contrast that with Joe's attitude to Mabrey straight afterwards, plainly and sternly threatening him. Joe has (rightly) identified Mabrey as the true malicious party here. He still has hope for Nicholas.

But Nicholas's response is interesting to me. He's generally very confident and charming, but when Joe asks "am I going to be disappointed", Nicholas is silent and wide-eyed - and looks over to his uncle. How many times has Nicholas heard he's disappointed Mabrey? Is he clinging to his pursuit of the crown as a means to gain his uncle's praise? Or has Mabrey only ever obsequiously praised him, seeking to mould him into the perfect puppet king? Is Nicholas quietly haunted by the sensation that every action Mabrey praises as right is actually wrong for him? It seems Mabrey raised Nicholas, leaving a powerful imprint on him - but here, Nicholas seems tempted by Joe's implication that he could earn, could deserve, Joe's approval instead of his disappointment. How much happier a life could Nicholas lead if he had Joe's praise and Mabrey's disapproval? Very, in my opinion, if we look at the way Joe uplifts Mia.

I ship Mia/Nicholas a lot so I'm very much approaching this from that context, and for plot reasons it would be hard to do post-canon Nicholas&Joe without that romance at least casting a shadow. But a missing scene during the second film wouldn't necessarily have to be about Nicholas's feelings, if you didn't want it to be. (Fanart has an advantage here, of course.) But even if it's not about Mia at all, I love the idea of Joe becoming a grandfather to consort Nicholas, and all the little moments of support and affection that would involve, both in their daily lives away from the public, but also quietly whispered during events. And I'd love to see Nicholas looking after Joe in turn - expressing gratitude for his advice and guidance, but also insisting that Joe is retired now, he needs to relax and sit down and also eat this delicious cake Nicholas has just baked. I think they could have such a cute familial bond.

Narrative Prompts
  • Another meeting between these two during the second film, where Joe gets more time to talk to - and understand, and encourage - a conflicted Nicholas.
  • Or a post-canon Nicholas is missing Mabrey, wishing his uncle could have been a better man, and Joe gently offers him support. Or maybe his experience with Mabrey leaves Nicholas worried he won't be a good father, and Joe has some wise words.
  • Or they're both attending a royal event. Joe may be retired, but his sharp eyes still catch everything - and he sees when consort Nicholas needs a few words to steady him. Or maybe Nicholas is feeling a little under the weather, or twisted his ankle trying to stop Mia twisting hers, and Joe helps him hide that till the event ends to not worry Mia.
  • Maybe Joe even manages to relax a little, now that he's both retired and married, and spends some time with Nicholas at a private family event. Do they play a board game, with Joe (or both of them) getting a little competitive? Is Nicholas keen for Joe to try his latest baked creation? Do they simply get to have a fond chat, surrounded by the warmth of family? What is Christmas like in Genovia, or Easter, or birthdays, or...

Visual Prompts
  • Joe resting a steady hand on Nicholas's shoulder, or curling an arm around him.
  • Nicholas trying to ply Joe with a slice of cake.
  • Joe straightening the tie of groom Nicholas's wedding outfit.
  • A proud Nicholas introducing Joe to his great-grandchild.
  • Joe whispering encouragement as Nicholas struggles to maintain a polished smile at an event.
  • Nicholas smiling as he hands Joe a Christmas ornament to place on the tree, or a wrapped present.

Nicholas Devereaux & Arthur Mabrey

Fuck, the angst. Mabrey seems to have raised Nicholas, manipulating and moulding him to be king as part of a personal quest for power - and is happy to betray him, running straight to the press right after Nicholas has confessed he's in love. But for all that, Nicholas isn't as messed up as he might be - which suggests Mabrey could be kind and gentle and fatherly. (Even if there was maybe a manipulation between some of that too.) I'd love to see inside their relationship more, whether that's one's thoughts on the other (and on their plan) during the second film, pre-canon angst or softness... or what happens when they encounter each other post-canon, after Nicholas has rejected Mabrey?

Narrative Prompts
  • I'd love to see a softer moment between them. Celebrating young Nicholas's birthday? Or Christmas? What is Halloween like in Genovia? Maybe Nicholas cooking for Mabrey, either when he was young and learning, or older and trying to impress with his gourmet skills.
  • Maybe Nicholas knew how to tutor Mia in archery because Mabrey insisted he learn every skill a future king would need. How young was Nicholas when Mabrey started on this? Did Nicholas resent it? Maybe he enjoyed some things, like horse riding, but was frustrated with others? How did Mabrey react if Nicholas struggled with one of these skills?
  • How many memories does Nicholas look back on and belatedly realise Mabrey was manipulating him?
  • One of Nicholas's "secrets" is that he pretended to be sick to get out of tests. Was Mabrey strict about academic achievement? Was he difficult to fool? And when he thought Nicholas was sick, was Mabrey distant and dismissive, or kind and affectionate?
  • Or what about when Nicholas was actually sick? I'd love to see Mabrey being gentle with him. Maybe when Nicholas was young, he'd try to cheer him up by reading a story - about a boy who unexpectedly became a prince.
  • Did Nicholas ever try to express an opinion about (not) wanting to be king? How much wheedling did Mabrey have to do to keep him on track?
  • Another of Nicholas's secrets is that he likes putting chocolate milk on cereal. Is that because Mabrey was harsh about childish fun?
  • Was Mabrey proud when Nicholas got into Cambridge? What about when he graduated?

Visual Prompts
  • Laughing and playing darts together.
  • Mabrey comforting Nicholas with a hand on his shoulder.
  • Attending Nicholas's graduation ceremony.
  • Mabrey watches as Nicholas practises archery.
  • A shocked Nicholas runs into Mabrey post-canon.

Mayday Parker & Peter B. Parker

I loved seeing Peter's transformation into a proud, enthusiastic, affectionate dad, trying to wrangle the adorable escapologist Mayday - the scene where she's climbing all over Spider-Society headquarters was great. I'd love something silly in that vein (maybe involving Mayday accidentally thwarting a supervillain?) or just some cute and fluffy family times - MJ welcome too!

Narrative Prompts
  • Mayday's first smile, first steps, first word... Any milestone!
  • Peter reading Mayday a bedtime story to try and get her to sleep.
  • Or trying to feed Mayday, when she's much more excited about throwing her food everywhere.
  • Taking Mayday trick or treating... and maybe getting lost inside a haunted house.
  • Peter playing peekaboo or another game to keep Mayday interested and giggling.
  • Mayday escapes from Peter's clutches inside a supervillain's lair and he gets captured trying to get her back - but the supervillain has no idea she's there. Or the utter chaos she's capable of causing.

Visual Prompts
  • Peter trying to take yet another photograph of Mayday as she tries to steal his phone to chew on it.
  • Mayday sitting in a high chair, gleefully throwing food all over herself as Peter tries to feed her.
  • A happy Mayday webbing Peter in the face.
  • An exhausted nap on the sofa, Mayday sprawled in Peter's arms.
  • Mayday wearing an adorable tiny Halloween costume. (Maybe Peter's wearing a matching one? Maybe MJ is too?)
  • Peter tied up by a supervillain as an unnoticed Mayday's about to push an Important Button in the background.
  • Peter smiling fondly as he rocks a sleeping Mayday in his arms. (Maybe with MJ leaning in too?)

Max Thunderman & Phoebe Thunderman

I didn't expect to fall in love with this show, but I can't resist its mix of goofy humour, superhero shenanigans, and family dynamics. I love that these two genuinely want to outdo and annoy each other, but underneath there's the unshakeable concern and affection of being family. The future superhero vs future supervillain setup provides both a fun twist on the "good twin, evil twin" trope and an excuse for even more (sibling) rivalry tropes - but I love that they established Max's "you're the best at being good, so I could only be second best; to be the best I have to be bad instead" motivation so early. It adds nuance and vulnerability to his charming persona, and also sets the groundwork for a future heel-face turn. And there's nuance to Phoebe too: she's caring, she's cheerful, a teacher's pet, a total goody-two-shoes... but still vulnerable to teenage worries, and gleefully rubs her victories in Max's face.

I love these two both when they're teaming up (reluctantly or happily) to achieve something together, and when they're working against each other, thwarting each other's hopes, till the inevitable moment when they remember they do care and stop just short of true harm. Examples I loved are the mathlympics episode, where Max puts all his energy into stealing Phoebe's dream - only to realise how much it means to her, and throw the match. And also the neighbourhood vandal episode, where Max quietly confesses to Phoebe that he can't ride a bike, leading them to team up - and Phoebe keeps her promise to keep his secret, even when it could solve the problem in front of them.

Canon typical levels of lying to their parents, misusing their powers, supervillain gadgetry, and generally flirting with disaster are all fine. (No major humiliation or embarrassment please.) But you could definitely push the hurt/comfort further than canon does - I'd love some more intense moments of vulnerability and affection, including extended hugs or forehead kisses. Or just something fluffy or bantery, teasing each other as they goof through teenage life. Background Hank/Barb is welcome, as are appearances by Billy and Nora, or even Dr Colosso, and you can include canon-type crushes for Phoebe or Max as background for the plot. (Could involve canon crushes, or OCs, or even Phoebe/Cherry or Max/Oyster.) Equally fine with something set at school, at home, or around superhero themes. Please no Mrs Wong though; that's one aspect I find, uh, questionable.

(Note: I've only seen most of season one and bits of season two so far, but I'm not worried about spoilers. I already know about Chloe, though having not seen her I have no preferences to offer there, and I've heard some general things about character arcs and where they end up. I'd prefer nothing that pivots entirely on significant events from an episode I haven't seen, but you don't have to stick to a season one setting - references to later events are fine. If you put a note at the top about which episode(s) you're calling back to, I could skip ahead to watch those before consuming; I have access to all of The Thundermans and The Thundermans Return, but not The Thundermans Undercover. I'm actively watching this show, so I'll try and update about my progress. But if you need to finish your assignment early in the creation period - I repeat, not worried about spoilers! None of my likes here will change! Anything I add later is just a bonus option!)

Narrative Prompts
  • Max has built a new supervillain gadget, and wants to test it by annoying Phoebe. Maybe he even ropes Nora and Billy into his plan. It works - but he "accidentally" breaks it before it really causes trouble for her.
  • Phoebe blunders into the same Young Supervillain competition as Max - and accidentally does better than him. She loves the attention, but she's uncomfortable with the pressure to ramp up the evilness - and Max's creeping disappointment twinges at her heart. Maybe she sets up a situation to both eliminate herself and make Max look better at the same time.
  • Some superhero mishap turns Phoebe's hair a horrible green - at school. Max laughs at her... then helps her hide before anyone else sees her. Maybe he lends her a beanie, and they come up with a plan to get her back to normal before lunch ends.
  • Or superhero events result in one of them being injured. Maybe the other one catches them as they collapse. Maybe they rush in to check they're alright. Maybe the uninjured one tries to laugh off the situation and pretend they were never worried - till the injured one gets worse, and they can't hide their concern any more. Or the injured one tries to laugh it off and pretend they're fine, till they can't hide the pain any more and they quietly accept their twin's comfort.
  • Animal transformation is a canonical thing! Maybe one of them gets turned into a cat, and the other one has to figure out a way to turn them back before their parents find out. Maybe the transformed one is worried they'll be stuck like that - and the other one comforts them with chin scritches and/or some gentle strokes. Which neither will admit to afterwards.
  • One of them realises they're not straight - and the other is the first person they tell. Either on purpose, in a rare moment of honesty and vulnerability, or because the other accidentally overhears them worrying. After swearing to secrecy and maybe a little panic, their twin gives them some gentle reassurance and advice. (Maybe the other twin is already out... or maybe this makes them realise they might not be straight either.)

Visual Prompts
  • One of them in mild danger, the other's eyes lighting up with thundersense as they dart in to protect them.
  • Sitting opposite each other at the breakfast table, flicking cereal at each other, pulling faces, Max using his telekinesis to try and steal Phoebe's homework, Phoebe using her telekinesis to yeet Max's latest gadget, trying to kick each other under the table, etc.
  • Or both comfortably sprawled on the sofa, at opposite ends, flicking popcorn at each other, telekinetically throwing cushions, wrestling over the remote control, smiling playfully as they watch a movie together...
  • One of them upset, the other putting an arm around their shoulders.
  • An illustration of them asleep in the park in s01e10, with Max's head on Phoebe's shoulder. (Or another time they fell asleep with one's head on the other's shoulder!)
  • Or an illustration of the following moment in s01e10, when Phoebe's fallen to the ground and Max gently checks if she's okay, one hand behind her back, the other on her elbow.
  • Or one of them gets injured, and the other crowds in close to check on them. Maybe the injured one even collapses, and the other catches them.
  • Both grimacing as some magic or gadgetry handcuffs them together.
