Size Difference Flash 2025
This flash made me realise size difference somewhat wasn't already in my likes list, which is probably because canon size difference makes me go a bit feral and then all my thoughts fall out. forsworn and I requested fic or art in five fandoms. Treats are welcome!
Okay, so first of all I'm going to cover both ships played by Florence Pugh (5' 4") and Chris Pine (6' 0"), because the height difference is huge and they've been in two films together. And the ships are the complete opposite: sweet, loyal, tender spouses Robert Bruce/Elizabeth de Burgh (from Outlaw King), and tense cat-and-mouse enemies Frank/Alice (Don't Worry Darling). Most of these gifs will be for Robert/Elizabeth because Frank and Alice mainly spend their scenes glaring at each other instead of usefully standing close to each other. But omfg, look at the size of his hands on her face! He can literally just pick her up and carry her around??? Just look how much taller he is, it's bonkers, and it's canon for both ships. This is the only useful gif I could find of Alice/Frank but to be fair this is about five seconds after he whispered "like a good girl" to her (yes really).
Secondly, Duncan (6' 4") is completely capable of picking up Paul (5' 10") in a bear hug. In fact they hug multiple times and just. Duncan makes Paul looks TINY. Look at his boy!! Manhandle him some more, Duncan!
I really struggled finding references for Doric (5' 0") with Xenk (5' 11") or Edgin (6' 0") because she spends most of her scenes lurking 5ft behind everyone else like some sassy photobombing pixie. This is her not even facing the damn camera between Edgin (left) and Xenk (right). One of the best refs is from a blooper. But here, despite Doric's attempts to deny my size difference frothing, you can see how much shorter she is in this walking shot. Also, as a bonus, this is Doric too. Fucking size.
Then finally there's Jayce and Viktor, who supposedly have a 3 inch height difference, but Viktor spends half his time slouching and Jayce is built like a brick shithouse and just. That contrast!! Just look at Jayce putting his massive hand on Viktor's shoulder and imagine what he could do with the rest of that body!

I was shipping these guys right from episode two. I love them as lab partners, and all the tropes that entails: late nights working closely together, deep intellectual discussion, witnessing each other's brilliance up close, the little moments of the daily routine, the mundane and the magical mixed together. Their work (and Jayce) is lauded by the public - but the reality of its creation is a more private experience. In some ways there's a quiet intimacy to it all.
But I also love the more transcendent aspects - they're bound together by destiny, the two of them so narratively entwined. "In all timelines, in all possibilities... Only you can show me this." They're inevitable, they're parallels, they're each other's salvation. And in the end it all comes down to Jayce's earnest wish to be with Viktor again, as partners.
I'm less interested in things set during their "divorce era" but you're free to reference it as much as you like. Fluff, smut, angsty mutual pining, or hurt/comfort are all welcome. Could be getting together or established relationship, whether it happens post-canon, or a canon divergence AU where they became a couple before Viktor merged with the Hexcore. I just need these two as partners and soulmates. (I love Mel too so please be kind to her, if you mention her at all - which you don't need to.)
I think Jayce is only supposed to be 3 inches taller than Viktor, but oof, those broad shoulders. He's built like a boulder compared to lean Viktor, and I am all about that - and I think Viktor would be too. No preference for who tops/bottoms but I do get a vibe that Viktor's slightly dommy and would power bottom if he bottoms. Which, uh, you can maybe see from my selected tags...

I loved the mindfuckery aspects of this film, and Frank was so compellingly creepy that I both wanted to run away and couldn't take my eyes off him. Their intellectual rivalry and mind games, with Frank daring Alice to work out what's really going on, sparked such good chemistry between them, and I'd love to see more in that vein - or maybe Frank alters Alice's memory to keep her unknowing and compliant. If you want to do smut, I'm happy for it to be anywhere from noncon to dubcon to fully consensual (if maybe conflicted and/or filled with shame).
I'm fine with a missing scene or with canon divergence (Frank lives and Alice gets caught; Shelley escapes instead of Alice; Alice goes for a final showdown with Frank; etc). Considering the nature of the relationships in this canon, I have no problem with either Alice or Frank "cheating" on their partners. Also happy for Alice/Jack and Frank/Shelley to be happening in the background. Jack can be alive or dead (or you can kill him off again, if you're doing an AU) but if Shelley exists I want her to survive.
Mainly my thoughts here are that Frank would absolutely use their massive size difference to his advantage, and Alice would hate herself for being into it. Or just hate him for doing it.

I was sold on these two from that very first hug. Their power dynamic is complicated and intriguing: Duncan is older, stronger, a more skilled warrior, and Paul's combat tutor - but Paul is the heir to House Atreides and capable of using the Voice. And there seems such genuine affection between them. I love how Duncan teases Paul, but also calls him "my boy"... And this exchange: "Can I trust you with something?" "Always. You know that." Omfg. I am all about the trust, loyalty and duty here - on both sides.
I'm mainly looking for something set just before canon, or maybe early in the first film, once Duncan returns from the Fremen - before everything goes to shit on Arrakis. DNW underage, but Paul's age is ambiguous, so I will happily assume he's over 18 at this point.

We don't really get any focused moments between these two in the film, but Doric actually seems like the least hostile to Xenk from the beginning - ironic considering her stance on humans started as "hateful and selfish" and "just can't help but lie"... but then Xenk and his ridiculous paladin goodness are so obviously the opposite of that! If Xenk joined the party for further adventures, I like to imagine they'd become good friends, and then fall in love (maybe after mutually pining). Or maybe just gently looking after each other during a dubcon scenario.
I love Doric's combination of a sharp tongue with her moral integrity and intense environmental concern, and how that contrasts and blends with Xenk's stern intensity, his awkward ways, and his own intense sense of justice and goodness. They're both visibly outsiders in ways the others aren't, so maybe they would have a natural understanding - or they'd bond over the angst of losing their families because of it. And between their outsider status and Xenk's sense of duty, I tend to imagine they're both virgins.
(Please don't mention Simon and Doric breaking up. I'd rather you give them an open relationship, make it an AU where they were never into each other, or just ignore that ship altogether.)

While trying to recruit her, Edgin was definitely using all his charm (although not in a sexual way) but Doric seemed utterly immune to it. I loved the tender moment when Edgin was sitting on the rock on the beach: his little smile as she walked over, the way she gently patted his shoulder and he patted hers in return, and she smiled back. Maybe his charm would be more welcome now they have a genuine connection, or maybe she'd be the one to instigate it.
I love that Doric is so committed to doing good and looking after nature, but that she doesn't let the rules stand in her way. And she has a very sharp tongue, in contrast to Edgin's silver one. Edgin thinks of himself as a thief and a lawbreaker, and is maybe trying to pretend he doesn't enjoy doing good as much as he actually does. He uses humour and a charming mask to hide his pain, but Doric absolutely doesn't fall for it - even if she'll be soft when he finally lets himself be vulnerable. But is she prepared to be vulnerable in return? I'm happy for this to be either a romantic ship, or casual sex/FWB/Edgin gently looking after Doric in a dubcon scenario, especially if her tiefling status means she's still a virgin.

I love the gentle, tender romance that develops between these two. Robert is clearly attracted to Elizabeth from the moment they meet, but out of respect for her autonomy or for his first wife, he refuses to claim his "marital rights". Elizabeth is resigned to her duty, striding into her new life despite the flicker of fear over physical intimacy - and when she discovers that sex is off the table, it gives her space to fall in love with him.
I love the quiet, sometimes awkward moments of daily life, encountering each other in corridors and repeatedly saying goodnight - as well as Elizabeth developing a strong bond with Marjorie. But I also love the bolder, more political moments, from the ceremonies to Elizabeth displaying her political nouse and swearing herself to him. They match each other on every level - ruling together, laughing together, supporting each other's needs, whether big or small - and their love is deep and genuine. I was so pleased that she was the one to invite him to bed, and that he waited for her without question, resulting in a tender and passionate consummation. And I love that - despite her being a determined, intelligent queen and him being a complex, canny leader capable of brutality - when they're laughing and kissing they feel more like awkward, earnest teenage lovers embarking on innocent first love. If you want to try and capture all those nuances, you're very welcome to - but I'd be happy with something that highlights just one aspect, whether fluffy or dramatic or smutty.
You're very welcome to include Marjorie, or their other historical children, as well as references to Robert's relationship with his first wife. Also, don't feel you need to be historically accurate at all - the film clearly isn't! If you do happen to know about the period, feel free to use that knowledge to expand on the film, though please don't change anything established by the movie. But you're also welcome to just make up details that "feel right".

Paul Atreides/Duncan Idaho
I was sold on these two from that very first hug. Their power dynamic is complicated and intriguing: Duncan is older, stronger, a more skilled warrior, and Paul's combat tutor - but Paul is the heir to House Atreides and capable of using the Voice. And there seems such genuine affection between them. I love how Duncan teases Paul, but also calls him "my boy"... And this exchange: "Can I trust you with something?" "Always. You know that." Omfg. I am all about the trust, loyalty and duty here - on both sides.
I'm mainly looking for something set just before canon, or maybe early in the first film, once Duncan returns from the Fremen - before everything goes to shit on Arrakis. DNW underage, but Paul's age is ambiguous, so I will happily assume he's over 18 at this point.

Doric/Xenk Yendar
We don't really get any focused moments between these two in the film, but Doric actually seems like the least hostile to Xenk from the beginning - ironic considering her stance on humans started as "hateful and selfish" and "just can't help but lie"... but then Xenk and his ridiculous paladin goodness are so obviously the opposite of that! If Xenk joined the party for further adventures, I like to imagine they'd become good friends, and then fall in love (maybe after mutually pining). Or maybe just gently looking after each other during a dubcon scenario.
I love Doric's combination of a sharp tongue with her moral integrity and intense environmental concern, and how that contrasts and blends with Xenk's stern intensity, his awkward ways, and his own intense sense of justice and goodness. They're both visibly outsiders in ways the others aren't, so maybe they would have a natural understanding - or they'd bond over the angst of losing their families because of it. And between their outsider status and Xenk's sense of duty, I tend to imagine they're both virgins.
(Please don't mention Simon and Doric breaking up. I'd rather you give them an open relationship, make it an AU where they were never into each other, or just ignore that ship altogether.)

Edgin Darvis/Doric
While trying to recruit her, Edgin was definitely using all his charm (although not in a sexual way) but Doric seemed utterly immune to it. I loved the tender moment when Edgin was sitting on the rock on the beach: his little smile as she walked over, the way she gently patted his shoulder and he patted hers in return, and she smiled back. Maybe his charm would be more welcome now they have a genuine connection, or maybe she'd be the one to instigate it.
I love that Doric is so committed to doing good and looking after nature, but that she doesn't let the rules stand in her way. And she has a very sharp tongue, in contrast to Edgin's silver one. Edgin thinks of himself as a thief and a lawbreaker, and is maybe trying to pretend he doesn't enjoy doing good as much as he actually does. He uses humour and a charming mask to hide his pain, but Doric absolutely doesn't fall for it - even if she'll be soft when he finally lets himself be vulnerable. But is she prepared to be vulnerable in return? I'm happy for this to be either a romantic ship, or casual sex/FWB/Edgin gently looking after Doric in a dubcon scenario, especially if her tiefling status means she's still a virgin.

Robert Bruce/Elizabeth de Burgh
I love the gentle, tender romance that develops between these two. Robert is clearly attracted to Elizabeth from the moment they meet, but out of respect for her autonomy or for his first wife, he refuses to claim his "marital rights". Elizabeth is resigned to her duty, striding into her new life despite the flicker of fear over physical intimacy - and when she discovers that sex is off the table, it gives her space to fall in love with him.
I love the quiet, sometimes awkward moments of daily life, encountering each other in corridors and repeatedly saying goodnight - as well as Elizabeth developing a strong bond with Marjorie. But I also love the bolder, more political moments, from the ceremonies to Elizabeth displaying her political nouse and swearing herself to him. They match each other on every level - ruling together, laughing together, supporting each other's needs, whether big or small - and their love is deep and genuine. I was so pleased that she was the one to invite him to bed, and that he waited for her without question, resulting in a tender and passionate consummation. And I love that - despite her being a determined, intelligent queen and him being a complex, canny leader capable of brutality - when they're laughing and kissing they feel more like awkward, earnest teenage lovers embarking on innocent first love. If you want to try and capture all those nuances, you're very welcome to - but I'd be happy with something that highlights just one aspect, whether fluffy or dramatic or smutty.
You're very welcome to include Marjorie, or their other historical children, as well as references to Robert's relationship with his first wife. Also, don't feel you need to be historically accurate at all - the film clearly isn't! If you do happen to know about the period, feel free to use that knowledge to expand on the film, though please don't change anything established by the movie. But you're also welcome to just make up details that "feel right".
