Thank you for creating something for me! My username is
forsworn. I requested six fandoms, with various different epistolary types - these are noted with each request. Treats are welcome!
If I requested more than one type of epistolary format (eg journals and letters) feel free to include a bit of each. And you're welcome to do a story entirely in epistolary format, but you're only required to do 500 of the 1000 minimum as epistolary, so feel free to include scenes that aren't epistolary - whichever works better for you! I've given some suggestions for each epistolary type I requested, but they definitely don't cover everything I'd find interesting, so if you're struck by an idea that I haven't even mentioned then you're welcome to go with that instead.

Simon Basset/Anthony Bridgerton
Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
These two are both traumatised and both weighed down by duty in different ways - Simon, determined to keep the angry vow made to his terrible father, and Anthony, trying to shepherd the loving family he became head of far too young. Simon has a sharp tongue that rears up when he's hurting, but Anthony knows him better than almost anyone. Anthony might struggle with his forbidden feelings for Simon, but maybe as the eldest brother to seven younger siblings it's easy to slip into the role of protector. Considering the era, maybe there's a current of repressed sexual tension between them - or maybe they've already started a secret relationship. Could be during their Oxford days, when they're both rakes about town, or a no-wives AU, but I'd really like them to peel back their manly reserve to allow a little softness through.
Diana Prince/Steve Trevor
Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
I love that they're both competent, but that Diana really got to shine as a badass - and that Steve, despite the attitudes of his time period, was impressed by her. Diana is so determined and forthright, but the culture clash and her mostly-theoretical knowledge means she starts off quite naive and has to learn how to deal with the complexities of the wider world. Steve is trying hard to be a good man and make a difference, but he's clearly seen terrible things during the war and he has to be haunted by them.
They make such a good team, both as adventurers and as a couple, and I'd love to see them in a happy established relationship. Feel free to do a canon divergence AU where Steve survives the first film, or maybe a soulmate AU with reincarnation or similar. Or lean into the angst of Diana missing Steve - until they're reunited. (Maybe forever, this time?)
Doric/Xenk Yendar
Epistolary Formats: Books and Articles; Journals and Diaries; Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
We don't really get any focused moments between these two in the film, but Doric actually seems like the least hostile to Xenk from the beginning - ironic considering her stance on humans started as "hateful and selfish" and "just can't help but lie"... but then Xenk and his ridiculous paladin goodness are so obviously the opposite of that! If Xenk joined the party for further adventures, I like to imagine they'd become good friends, and then fall in love.
I love Doric's combination of a sharp tongue with her moral integrity and intense environmental concern, and how that contrasts and blends with Xenk's stern intensity, his awkward ways, and his own intense sense of justice and goodness. They're both visibly outsiders in ways the others aren't, so maybe they would have a natural understanding - or they'd bond over the angst of losing their families because of it.
(Please don't mention Simon and Doric breaking up. I'd rather you give them an open relationship, make it an AU where they were never into each other, or just ignore that ship altogether.)
Edgin Darvis/Doric
Epistolary Formats: Books and Articles; Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
While trying to recruit her, Edgin was definitely using all his charm (although not in a sexual way) but Doric seemed utterly immune to it. I loved the tender moment when Edgin was sitting on the rock on the beach: his little smile as she walked over, the way she gently patted his shoulder and he patted hers in return, and she smiled back. Maybe his charm would be more welcome now they have a genuine connection, or maybe she'd be the one to instigate it.
I love that Doric is so committed to doing good and looking after nature, but that she doesn't let the rules stand in her way. And she has a very sharp tongue, in contrast to Edgin's silver one. Edgin thinks of himself as a thief and a lawbreaker, and is maybe trying to pretend he doesn't enjoy doing good as much as he actually does. He uses humour and a charming mask to hide his pain, but Doric absolutely doesn't fall for it - even if she'll be soft when he finally lets himself be vulnerable. But is she prepared to be vulnerable in return, sharing how much her family's abandonment really affected her?
(Please don't mention Simon and Doric breaking up. I'd rather you give them an open relationship, make it an AU where they were never into each other, or just ignore that ship altogether.)
Edgin Darvis & Holga Kilgore
Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
I can't tell you how excited I was to see a canon male-female relationship that will explicitly only ever be platonic, and yet is vitally important to their lives. I love how they clearly care for and respect each other, despite being so different, and how they use their different skills to achieve their goals together.
It's great to see them bantering, working together, protecting each other, being best friends and co-parents. When things get tough, I love seeing little hints of affection peeking through Holga's gruffness, and I love Edgin feeling secure enough to drop his cheerful mask. But I also love them being genuinely happy together.
Edgin Darvis/Xenk Yendar
Epistolary Formats: Books and Articles; Journals and Diaries; Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
I have so many feelings about these two. I love their banter and how they spark off each other, how Edgin sees Xenk as an enemy but then grows to respect him and doesn't want him to leave, how Xenk is frustrated with Edgin's criminal tendencies but fully believes in his goodness and is determined to draw it out... Making Edgin swear on the Harper's seal, then tenderly touching his hand? Yeah. I'd love to see how their relationship develops after the film, with a softer friendship blossoming into romance.
These two are so good for mutual pining. Maybe Xenk thinks he can't be with anyone because of his duty as a paladin, or because the Beckoning Death has left him cursed, partially undead, lacking part of his soul, etc. Maybe Edgin finds out Xenk is a virgin and assumes the guy isn't interested in sex at all. (I do headcanon Xenk as a virgin.) Or Edgin thinks Xenk's too noble and pure to want a criminal like him, or thinks Xenk wants someone more serious or more intellectual. Xenk thinking Edgin's too charming and sociable to want someone as awkward and unbending as him... I love the angsty possibilities of all this, the two of them keeping their feelings secret even as they're practically bursting with longing. But I'd also love a happy established relationship between them.
Edgin Darvis/Zia Darvis
Epistolary Formats: Books and Articles; Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
I don't really have any headcanons for these two, so I'm open to a lot of different possibilities. Were they best friends who fell in love? Friends with benefits, maybe even deciding to lose their virginities together? Did Edgin woo Zia with his bardic skills? Or did she court him, and back then he was flustered rather than polished and charming?
You can set this at any point, from when they first got together, while they were dating, when they were married, when Zia was pregnant with Kira, to after Kira was born... I'd just like to see Edgin being happy, and to see more of Zia at all. She seemed so sweet and sensible! Show me how they communicated when they were still happily together.
Simon Aumar/Doric
Epistolary Formats: Books and Articles; Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
I love how soft Simon gets around Doric and I'd love to see her showing a softer side to him in return. (I do love Doric's spikiness though.) And I love that over the course of the film, she was very interested every time Simon's competency was shown or discussed - she was always into him, she just had this one dealbreaker, and then he fixed it! (Well, maybe he didn't entirely fix it: I love Simon having more confidence, but it might be nice to see him struggle a little - with Doric encouraging him, now she's convinced of his capability.) Does Doric have a competency kink?
Both of them have angsty pasts: Doric as a tiefling rejected by her parents, who's visibly an outsider wherever she goes; Simon as a sorcerer trying to live up to his family's long legacy of wizardry. Plus, as a half-elf, wherever he was raised, he was probably too human for the elves and too elven for the humans. As they get to know each other better, it'd be great to see them open up to each other about these things.
Maybe their courting is awkward at first, possibly hampered by Simon's tendency to break things or fall over, but I absolutely believe they're a good match and would love to see a happy relationship grow between them.
Simon Aumar/Edgin Darvis
Epistolary Formats: Books and Articles; Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
I love how Edgin is absolutely convinced of Simon's potential badassery (he has a mental list of all the times Simon's magic worked!) and how he's determined to make Simon believe it too - and this, for some reason, involves touching Simon's face a lot. Simon is awkward and sulky in the face of this, even though he's perfectly willing to trust Edgin and follow his lead in other areas - maybe Simon is pining, and can't let himself believe that Edgin cares about him, or is worried about opening his heart? If they did get together, would Edgin's charm and confidence continue, or would he be more earnest and vulnerable?
(Please don't mention Simon and Doric breaking up. I'd rather you give them an open relationship, make it an AU where they were never into each other, or just ignore that ship altogether.)
Simon Aumar/Xenk Yendar
Epistolary Format: Books and Articles; Journals and Diaries; Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
In the film, Simon mostly seems to get on Xenk's nerves (being sarcastic! destroying the bridge!) but he's not doing it on purpose and I really think if they spent more time together they could become good friends - and then more. Despite his initial jealousy, Simon is eager for Xenk to stay at the end. But maybe Simon worries that Xenk doesn't like him, or doesn't respect him? And Xenk isn't great at social interaction, so he might not realise Simon feels that way, or might not know how to explain that he actually does care. Potentially some angst there, but I'd also love some fluff.
(Please don't mention Simon and Doric breaking up. I'd rather you give them an open relationship, make it an AU where they were never into each other, or just ignore that ship altogether.)
Nicholas Devereaux/Mia Thermopolis
Epistolary Formats: Books and Articles; Journals and Diaries; Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts; Texts and Social Media
This is such a great example of enemies to lovers. I love that they're kind and flirty at their first meeting, because they're immediately attracted to each other, and that even once they're enemies they can't hide that sexual tension. But their enmity is based on both seeking something only one of them can have rather than ideological differences: Nicholas seems more motivated by whether Mia's going to be a good queen and whether she really knows Genovia (and by his uncle's influence), and not a personal hunger for power. So once he's convinced of her capability (and she of his sincerity) and he gives up his claim to the crown, there's no question about whether they'd be able to find common ground.
I love both the push-and-pull of Nicholas flirting and Mia trying to resist (in the closet, by the fountain, the deleted scene in the kitchen) as well as them being soft and friendly with each other: Nicholas supporting Mia by helping with her archery, and the night they spend together before her wedding where we see them opening up emotionally, dancing close, and falling asleep in each other's arms. So I'd love a post-canon continuation of that as their relationship develops, or is fully established, or something while Nicholas is still living at the palace during their rivalry.
I liked Andrew as a character so no bashing of him please, and it's fine to have Mia/Andrew's unromantic engagement happening in the background or for them to amicably break up. Also happy for Clarisse/Joe to be in the background, or for Lilly to visit again. Or cute anecdotes about Fat Louie the cat or Maurice the dog!
Franklin "FDR" Foster/Tuck Hansen
Epistolary Formats: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts; Texts and Social Media
I love these two and the dynamic they have: working smoothly together, protecting each other in danger, happily declaring their love for each other, bantering, hanging out. They're deeply competitive but deeply loyal, though there's also a fragility to their friendship. They're such different people - smooth, flirty FDR who hides his angsty past, and earnest, romantic Tuck who's longing for love but doesn't know how to find it - but they have such an easy rapport and genuinely like each other. (Except when they don't.)
They also do a lot of terrible things - for their jobs, but also socially - and I'm fine with that being acknowledged, in a "they're the same kind of terrible, and therefore perfect for each other" sort of way. But feel free to ignore that thread.
Asha/Magnifico of Rosas
Epistolary Formats: Books and Articles; Journals and Diaries; Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
I kinda felt like they couldn't decide what Magnifico's motivation was. Like whether he was a purely evil villain powered by arrogance and a need for control, or whether he was a sympathetic antagonist crushed by the pressure of kingship and past trauma. For this exchange I'd prefer something more towards the sympathetic side, though feel free to make him still arrogant and a bit manipulative - more of a misguided and tragic figure, even if he still turns to darkness. (Though if he does, please leave the door open for redemption and don't confirm that he's irredeemable once he's used the forbidden green magic. Even if he doesn't get redeemed within the fic.)
Between Asha's interview and them duetting on what was basically a love song, I both shipped these two and really wanted to see them as mentor/apprentice. I love Asha's determination, her compassion, her righteousness, and her quirky goofiness - but if your work suits her being more serious, that's fine. Apprentice AU, canon plotline, or other canon divergence are all welcome.
Please either make this an AU where Asha is already 18, or have a time skip so she's an adult. And please either give Magnifico and Amaya an open relationship, or make it an AU where they were never a couple.

- For Wish: implied sex while underage (18+ only); fully evil or unredeemable Magnifico
General Likes:
- Fluff. Domestic fluff. Hopeful spring vibes. Cosy autumn or winter vibes. Rainy evenings in. Lazy sunny mornings. Cooking together, eating together. The daily routines of travelling together longterm.
- Banter. Getting together. Established relationship. Found family. Characters showing affection in their own way. Groups amusing themselves with jokes and stories while spending every day together. Characters trusting in each other's skills. Competence kink.
- Cheek touches. Hand on the back of the neck. Hugs and cuddling. Cheek kisses. Forehead kisses. (Platonic versions welcome!)
- Holding hands. Kisses described in loving detail. Brushing fingers over lips.
- Angst with a happy ending. Hurt/comfort. Mutual pining. Repression and self-denial. Intense sense of duty or loyalty. Complicated family legacies. Self-esteem issues.
- Dreams and nightmares. Shared dreams. Prophetic dreams, dreams of future soulmate. Nightmares of past trauma.
- Truth spells. Telepathic bonds. Soulbonds, accidental or deliberate. Magical tattoos that show connections: soulmate marks, pistilverse, etc.
- Kidfic, of the canon character being de-aged type. Kidfic, of the having and caring for children type. Pregnancy, including mpreg. Pregnancy fluff: anticipating child, preparing, taking care of pregnant partner. Pregnancy angst: worrying about being a good parent, worrying about the birth (esp for mpreg). Pregnancy hurt/comfort: morning sickness, pampering partner.
- Forced proximity: stuck in a prison cell together, only one bed, trapped by a cave-in, hiding in a closet, handcuffed together, magic spell, etc.
- Sparring and combat tutoring. Character A defending character B with character B's weapon.
Hurt/Comfort Likes:
- Emotional hurt/comfort. Physical hurt/comfort. Whump. Mild hurt/comfort.
- Nightmares. Flashbacks. Crying. Staying with character B as they fall asleep.
- Impact bruises. Being manually choked. Twisted ankles.
- Stab wounds. Arrow wounds. Pulling the arrow out. Nosebleeds as fight injury. Grazes and abrasions.
- Magical torture, psychic torture, and other kinds of pain inflicted without harming the body.
- Bedside vigils. Holding injured character close. Carrying or supporting someone who can't walk. Character A catching character B as they collapse (even if character A isn't strong enough to hold them up and just helps slow their descent to the floor). Helping injured character undress, remove armour, etc.
- Seasickness. Morning sickness. "Oh no, that thing you just ate was poisoned." Vomiting in the context of hurt/comfort - the loss of control, the pain of throwing up, the vulnerability of being seen that way - whether due to nausea, induced by emetic, or induced by fingers (theirs or partner's). Not interested in the vomit itself, though fine to mention it looks/smells/tastes gross.
- Struggling through sex pollen/an omegaverse heat/etc without having sex, only giving non-sexual comfort for the symptoms.
- Premature ejaculation. Erectile dysfunction. Shame over sexual desires.
- The awkward vulnerability of comfort requiring a new level of intimacy.
- Stern/gruff characters making tiny gestures as a comforter and the comfortee understanding that significance. A comforter understanding when the comfortee only wants tiny gestures, and the comfortee being grateful for that understanding. People who are comfortable with each other giving and accepting large amounts of comfort.
- Stoic hurt characters refusing to break down. Stoic hurt characters letting it all out.
- I love both the hurt and comfort parts of the equation! Go heavy on one part and less on the other, or have an equal mix of both.
Smut Likes:
- Positions: Missionary, riding and other face-to-face positions, for eye contact and/or lots of kissing. But spooning pairs well with gentle sex, and oral fingering's probably more easily done from behind.
- Locations: In bed, in a chair, against a wall, on the floor... In the bedroom, in the living room, in an alley, in a forest, in a dungeon, on a ship, on the victorious battlefield... Basically anywhere? Yeah.
- Acts: Anal sex, including het anal. Vaginal sex. Loss of virginity. First time bottoming. Pegging. Strap-ons. Deepthroating. Oral fingering. Kissing during sex. Breastplay (fondling, gently squeezing, kissing). Nippleplay (pinching, kissing, licking).
- Moods: Gentle sex. Tender sex. Fluffy sex. Hurt/comfort sex. Sex with lots of feelings. Vulnerability and trust.
- BDSM: Dom/sub. Bondage. Pinned down. Kneeling. Collaring. Praise kink. Orgasm delay/edging. BDSM AUs.
- Dubcon: Sex pollen. Fuck or die. Sex caused by magic or to perform magic. Pining during dubcon. (Whether they admit their feelings during, after, or not at all.) Having to trust each other with the unexpected intimacy. Worrying about being so vulnerable but being kind to each other and coming out stronger on the other side.
- Size kink and stretching: Big cocks. Painful penetration. Lots of foreplay/prep, slow and gentle penetration so it isn't painful. Large object insertions. Sounding.
- Omegaverse: Alpha/Omega. Painfully big alpha dicks. Knotting. Sexy pheromones. Pheromones that communicate fear, or anger, or other emotions. Alpha pheromones that make the omega feel safe, or protected, or calm.
- An undercover situation requires them to fuck while being watched, but they successfully fake it - except the kisses, the touches, the proximity, and the "is it okay if I..." questions whispered right in each other's ears were all very real. And some of those moans didn't sound fake. Either they're so wound up they fuck for real once they're no longer being watched, or the feelings keep simmering until they boil over later.
Could be during their Oxford days, when they're both rakes about town, or a no-wives AU, but I'd really like them to peel back their manly reserve to allow a little softness through.
- Letters during their time at Oxford, maybe sent during the breaks between terms. Does Anthony wearily/happily update his best friend about his younger siblings' shenanigans? Is Simon mysteriously very quiet in reply, not wanting to reveal the truth about his homelife - until Anthony begs for the truth? Or maybe Simon writes back with long tales of scandalous adventures... but as they as true as he makes out? (Is he secretly pining?)
- Maybe letters after Oxford, trying to keep a connection as both of them pine, as they wish they could go back to seeing each other every day instead of just sometimes at their club. Or while Simon is on his grand tour, trying to pretend he isn't aching over all the things he left behind?
- Or maybe one of them writes a letter confessing all his feelings, unable to keep them in any longer, with the plan to burn it afterwards? (What happens if he gets the courage to send it? Or the other one finds it on his desk, half finished - or half burnt in the grate? Or they both write confession letters??)
- Maybe they're already together, and they write each other affectionate letters while apart. But they have to keep their real feelings secret, and so come up with a code? Or maybe they sign the letters with made up female names, so each can safely receive the letters as a man? But being rakes, that doesn't stop them from being very explicit...
- Maybe after the first film, Diana deals with her heartbreak by writing letters to Steve that she thinks he'll never read. (Does she save all of them, allowing him to read them in 1984?)
- Or maybe she pours her heart out, never expecting to be reunited... only for Steve to be reincarnated, and find her again. Do her letters help him regain his memory? Maybe he's been writing letters to her - to this strange woman he half remembers but feels such a pull to, maybe has been having mysterious dreams about - feeling an intense need to connect, but not knowing how or where? (Does he let her read them when they reunite?)
- Maybe Steve survives the first film, and they get to write loving letters as sweethearts. Maybe while they're on another adventure, but need to undertake different tasks, so they write to keep each other updated. Or Steve needs to travel back to America, but Diana is occupied, so they write. Or Diana gets an opportunity to return to Themyscira, but Steve can't go or has other duties. Or whatever reason makes sense to you!
(Please don't mention Simon and Doric breaking up. I'd rather you give them an open relationship, make it an AU where they were never into each other, or just ignore that ship altogether.)
- Does Xenk keep a diary? Maybe in Thayan, to have a tangible piece of his homeland that can't fade or be corrupted... and does writing it in Thayan give him the bravery to acknowledge the feelings for Doric that he can't bring himself to speak aloud? (Or maybe, if they're together, to be incredibly gooey and affectionate in a way Xenk struggles to be verbally.)
- Maybe they're adventuring together, and Xenk decides he's going to confess his love... but decides to write it down, so he can get it perfect, as people keep telling him how bad he is at talking. Is it easier for him to find the words that way? Or still ridiculously hard? Does he go through multiple drafts?
- Or maybe they're a happy established couple, but their quest requires them to undertake different tasks, and they write to keep in touch while they're apart. Is Xenk eloquent and tender in a way that touches Doric's heart? Does Doric find it difficult to open up, or is it easier on the page? Maybe they're both sweetly awkward.
- Maybe Doric sends - or writes - an article about some issue of nature preservation, or about nature magic, and she and Xenk end up having a very earnest and intense discussion about it. Is this some bonding between two pining people, or a deep sharing of personal interests between a respectful couple?
- Or maybe Xenk writes a very serious piece about some paladin philosophy, and Doric is the only one who happily dives into it - and understands it.
Edgin Darvis/Doric
Epistolary Formats: Books and Articles; Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
While trying to recruit her, Edgin was definitely using all his charm (although not in a sexual way) but Doric seemed utterly immune to it. (Please don't mention Simon and Doric breaking up. I'd rather you give them an open relationship, make it an AU where they were never into each other, or just ignore that ship altogether.)
- Maybe their quest requires them to undertake different tasks, and they write to keep in touch while they're apart. Are these practical letters with hints of pining, or are they an established couple? Does Doric find it hard to be open about her feelings, and falls in with Edgin's teasing instead? Does Edgin find himself writing with a fonder tone than he meant to - or is he very explicit, in a way even practical Doric has to blush at?
- What if Edgin feels guilty about the age difference, or some other issue, and decides to send Doric letters anonymously? Are these soft and earnest outpourings that he angsts over? Or lyrical and eloquent messages which cover the pain of his pining with layers of poetry? (And how quickly does Doric recognise her secret admirer's bardic turns of phrase - or his handwriting?)
- Maybe Doric writes an article about some issue of nature preservation, or about nature magic, and Edgin reads it because he knows it's important to her. Does he make jokes, and pretend he never read it, not wanting to reveal his feelings? (Or because he didn't understand all of it, feels like an idiot, and is worried his earnest attempt isn't enough.) Or does he surprise her with how seriously he takes it, and how much respect he shows, even if he needs to ask some followup questions?
Edgin Darvis & Holga Kilgore
Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
I can't tell you how excited I was to see a canon male-female relationship that will explicitly only ever be platonic, and yet is vitally important to their lives. I love how they clearly care for and respect each other, despite being so different, and how they use their different skills to achieve their goals together.
It's great to see them bantering, working together, protecting each other, being best friends and co-parents. But I also love them being genuinely happy together.
- Did either of them send or receive letters while they were locked up in Revel's End? It sounds like Marlamin might have. Who else? Was it always a highlight to get a letter - even if it was an upsetting one? Did Edgin and Holga read their letters together, especially if they mentioned each other? Maybe help - or "help" - each other write their replies? Or were they personal, private communications - the one place they could pour out the difficulties of being locked up together, because to speak them aloud would've been too raw?
- What about before or after Revel's End, as thieves or adventurers - did Holga send letters to Edgin whenever she went back to visit Marlamin? Or if they needed to split up for their heist/quest, would they send letters to make sure they were both on track - or to keep the other one updated with news about Kira?
- Or maybe a funny compilation of little notes they've left for each other around the cottage. Holga, stop leaving your axe on the kitchen table. I don't want bullywug guts in my sandwiches. Ed, why are there no potatoes? Did you eat the last one? Buy more. etc etc
- Does Xenk keep a diary? Maybe in Thayan, to have a tangible piece of his homeland that can't fade or be corrupted... and does writing it in Thayan give him the bravery to acknowledge the feelings for Edgin that he can't bring himself to speak aloud? (Or maybe, if they're together, to be incredibly gooey and affectionate in a way Xenk struggles to be verbally.)
- Or maybe they're on a quest, and they need to traverse a dungeon or a wizard's tower or some such - but luckily the wizard left a journal detailing all their work and all the traps... if only Xenk and Edgin can work together to figure out the puzzles.
- Maybe letters are the way they get back in touch after the film. Who writes to who first? How well do they manage to squash the longing down? (And how many drafts does it take to achieve that?) What excuse do they come up with for meeting again?
- Maybe they're already adventuring together, and Xenk decides he's going to confess his love... but decides to write it down, so he can get it perfect, as Edgin keeps telling him how bad he is at talking. Is it easier for him to find the words that way? Or still ridiculously hard? Does he go through multiple drafts?
- Or maybe they're a happy established couple, but their quest requires them to undertake different tasks, and they write to keep in touch while they're apart. Is Xenk eloquent and tender in a way that makes Edgin's heart squeeze? Is Edgin lyrical and emotional in a way that gets Xenk's heart going - or very explicit in a way that makes Xenk's cheeks burn?
- Or they're going undercover as a couple... and they figure writing each other "in character" love letters will be a great part of their disguise. Is this a fun, silly thing they do while laughing together and being genuinely affectionate? Or do they put all of their hidden hopes and fantasies into these letters, which start to get a little too real?
- What about an AU where Xenk and Edgin had worked together while he was still a Harper, and when Edgin was sent to Revel's End he started getting letters from an infuriatingly encouraging Xenk? Or even before then - maybe Xenk was one of the few people who kept in touch when Edgin dropped out of the Harpers? (Did Edgin resent that at first? How did Xenk win him over?)
- Maybe the Harper's Seal becomes useful again during another quest, or Edgin finds himself rereading it and angsting. Or Xenk (re)reads it, noting which parts of it still apply to Edgin's behaviour.
- Maybe Edgin finds (or Xenk gives him) a book about paladins which helps him understand his partner better? Or baffles him further. Or maybe in his bafflement, Edgin writes his own tongue-in-cheek "guide to dating a paladin"...
- Or maybe Edgin discovers an old lost book about Thay, and gives it to Xenk to remind him of his homeland. Or Xenk uses a book to share some of his Thayan culture with Edgin. Or they find a book about the Red Wizards, or the Beckoning Death, or necromancy in general, which sends them on a new quest to help Xenk/defeat his enemies?
- Did they send love letters while they were courting? Maybe Edgin tried to sweep Zia off her feet with long eloquent romantic letters using all his bardic skill... or maybe he tried and they were sort of charmingly awkward in a very sincere way. Maybe it was Zia who sent Edgin very effusive (or explicit?) letters while he flailed around struggling to send even a short coherent reply.
- Maybe one of them was even the other's "secret admirer", leaving them regular letters until they confessed in person. (Maybe they were both each other's secret admirer. Or not so secret.)
- What about while Edgin was away on Harper missions? Did he have the opportunity to send and receive letters? Did they keep in touch that way? Maybe Zia was giving him updates about how many times the baby kicked her belly each day, or what adorable nonsense babbling little Kira said today, or just how much she missed him.
- Maybe he needed to go undercover and she wrote him letters "in character" as his cover's partner. Maybe they ended up giggling together as she got really into the roleplay. (Maybe that roleplay turned into sexy roleplay of a less epistolary type.)
- Or what about when he was training to be a Harper, and trying to learn ceremonies and procedures from the Harper's Seal, and maybe making notes on them? Did Zia help him learn, maybe make notes or flashcards too?
- Or maybe they read a romance novel about a sexy bard and used it for some inspiration... or Edgin wrote one, featuring (very) thinly disguised versions of them, with Zia's full encouragement. (All copies are now very well hidden so none of the party ever find out, lmao.)
- Maybe the party needs to split into groups for different parts of a quest, and Simon and Doric have to join separate groups, so they keep in touch via letters. Are they mostly practical with a bit of affection, with Simon too awkward and Doric too reserved to really gush? Or have they settled into their relationship, and now Simon is just intensely sincere about his feelings, so much that even Doric has warmed up to the idea of being open about hers?
- Or maybe they decide to take a break for the winter, so Simon and Doric go to the Emerald Enclave together, while Edgin and the others go back to the cottage in Targos. But they all keep in touch, which means Doric and Simon are now writing letters about each other to their friends. (But does one of them reveal more than the other?)
- Maybe Doric stumbles on - or Simon gives her - a book about the Aumar family and Elminster's legacy. And Doric might tease him a little, but she reads it anyway thinking she might understand Simon better... except the more she realises how hard it must be for Simon as a sorcerer from wizarding blood, the more sympathy she feels for his confidence issues, and the more tender her feelings for him become.
- Maybe it's even an article Simon himself wrote, when he was younger, about what it's like to be related to Elminster - and he thought all copies had disappeared, so he's awkward when Doric finds one - but it still has the effect of helping Doric understand him better.
- Did Simon send letters to Edgin (and Holga) while he was locked up in Revel's End? The film kinda implies he didn't, as Edgin wasn't sure if Simon was still in Triboar, and didn't know Forge had turned on him - but I'd love an AU where they did keep in touch. Maybe with all that time to think and no adventures to distract him, Edgin began to realise what he actually felt for Simon - and maybe Simon began to realise how much he missed him.
- Or maybe they send letters when they need to keep in touch while undertaking separate parts of the same quest. Are Edgin's full of jokes and teasing that cover up his sincere worries for Simon? Does Simon awkwardly and accidentally send something a bit too earnest? Or maybe they're an established couple, and the teasing is deliberate and affectionate.
- Maybe Simon wants to court someone via letter, so he asks his friend Ed to help him. And master bard Edgin gives him a full crash course in the matter. Except the more examples Edgin writes, the less it seems like he's trying to show Simon how to write to someone else, and just sincerely writing to Simon from his own perspective...
- Maybe Edgin stumbles on - or Simon (perhaps foolishly) gives him - a book about the Aumar family and Elminster's legacy. And Edgin might joke about it, but he reads it anyway thinking he might understand Simon better... except the more he realises how hard it must be for Simon as a sorcerer from wizarding blood, the more sympathy he feels, and the more those soft feelings start to develop into something else.
- Maybe it's even an article Simon himself wrote, when he was younger, about what it's like to be related to Elminster - and he thought all copies had disappeared, so he's awkward when Edgin finds one - but it still has the effect of helping Edgin understand him better.
- Does Xenk keep a diary? Maybe in Thayan, to have a tangible piece of his homeland that can't fade or be corrupted... and does writing it in Thayan give him the bravery to acknowledge the feelings for Simon that he can't bring himself to speak aloud? (Or maybe, if they're together, to be incredibly gooey and affectionate in a way Xenk struggles to be verbally.)
- I love the idea of these two being a bit geeky together. Maybe they find a book on a mutually appreciated topic, and read it together (or separately), writing excited notes about it or having in-depth discussions.
Is Xenk eloquent and tender in a way that makes Simon blush? Is Simon awkwardly earnest in a way Xenk finds sweet?
- Maybe Xenk stumbles on - or Simon gives him - a book about the Aumar family and Elminster's legacy. And Xenk very solemnly reads it to understand Simon better... except the more he realises how hard it must be for Simon as a sorcerer from wizarding blood, the more sympathy he feels, and the more those soft feelings start to develop into something else.
- Maybe it's even an article Simon himself wrote, when he was younger, about what it's like to be related to Elminster - and he thought all copies had disappeared, so he's awkward when Xenk finds one - but it still has the effect of helping Xenk understand him better.
- Obviously Mia keeps a diary. We do get a few narrations from her during the second film while she's supposedly writing in it - but maybe there were other entries? More detailed entries about Nicholas? Especially in the time between that final archery lesson and her coronation.
- And what about now they're a couple? Is her diary full of happy, gooey anecdotes and sighing? Or is she trying to be reserved and queenly - only for her feelings to keep slipping out anyway? Does she have some new royal difficulty to overcome?
- Maybe Mia inspires Nicholas to start keeping a diary too. Or maybe he always did, she just wasn't aware of it. What kinds of things was he writing in there? Was he far more open about his feelings on those pages than he was aloud, considering his only confidant was Mabrey? What would he write now they're a couple? (And does he let her read it, or vice versa?)
- The press attention and how they deal with that is one of my favourite tropes. So, how about some newspaper articles? Are they deeply intrusive and/or completely inaccurate? What do the press think once Mia and Nicholas are engaged, or married, or (about to) have children? And how do Mia and Nicholas react to it? (I'd love to see them supporting each other with the difficult parts, or laughing together at the silly ones.)
- Or maybe Mia is trying to read up on Genovian culture or history. Are these things Nicholas already knows? Has he already read this book? Does he know some of it's wrong? Or does he discover some of the things he'd always believed are wrong?
- Maybe Nicholas is the one doing research, to help Mia, and they end up discussing it when he tells her?
- Maybe once they have children, Nicholas stays home with them and sends Mia voicemails and videos of their kids while she's stuck at some important event? Maybe him trying to bake with them and it getting very messy. (Maybe Nicholas trying to frame the video to pretend it hasn't gotten as messy as it has.)
- Or Nicholas and Mia writing letters to each other while apart, maybe while she has queen business in one place and he needs to be somewhere else, or he was sick and couldn't go, or whatever reason. Are they soft and lovey messages, or full of complicated political details, or both?
- If you want to do something a few years post-canon, maybe Mia and Nicholas are now on social media. Do they try to project a regal and professional manner... while sending each other sassy DMs full of memes? Or maybe Nicholas is a bit of a troll, delivering witty political commentary that always edges just on the right side of plausible deniability - while Mia tries to pretend she sees no double meanings in it, and tries to suppress her laughter? (Or is Mia the troll?)
- Maybe social media - or texting - is how they keep in touch with Lilly, Clarisse and/or Joe, keeping up with their adventures, as well as updating them about their own?
- Or what kinds of texts do they send each other during their daily life? Normal coupley messages about have you seen my glasses and Fat Louie just did a big sneeze; is that cute or worrying? Or questions about the percentage increase of pear exports to Italy over the last three years? Or both?
- It's literally canon that if FDR is trying to contact Tuck and he can't, he will just leave constant voicemails until he does. Do these get even more unhinged once they're a couple? And is Tuck any more normal about it - or is he equally as obsessive? (Whether this is an entirely fluffy thing for them or with toxic fluff undertones.)
- What about texts? They might have to be careful to keep off social media, due to being spies, but what are their private texts like? And does that change from when they were friends to them being a couple? Were their texts always full of "I love you"s, innuendoes and eggplant emojis? (And do they look back now like "how did we not realise"?) Or do they get soppier once they get together - or just blisteringly explicit?
- What about their messages to other people about each other? What do they tell Nana Foster, especially when she's inviting them to another family party? How does she talk to each of them in return?
- Or for something more dramatic: maybe one of them gets captured during a mission, and the other receives a video message of them, bruised and trying to hide his fear as he relays his captors' demands? And the other has to use the clues in the video - maybe specific clues from his partner, such as morse code blinks, or other secret messages - to figure out where he is and save him?
- Maybe somehow, while Magnifico is trapped in that mirror, he uses his remaining magic to put down his feelings and fears in a journal or in letters... and they get delivered to Asha? And she realises he's genuinely repentant, and determines to free him from the green magic's corruption?
- Or he didn't end up in the mirror, but his power was broken, and now Magnifico writes a journal or letters to while away the hours in prison. Maybe Asha's initially reluctant to reply, but she begins to believe he really is penitent, and starts writing back? Maybe even asking advice, now that she grants wishes too.
- Maybe in her role as a magical wishgranter, Asha explores Magnifico's old sorcery books, looking for anything that could help her better understand these powers and how to help people - and she finds his old notes/diary/something, which details his magical experiments, or his worries, or his logic for how he granted wishes. And as Asha's understanding grows, so does her sympathy.
- Maybe, just as Amaya and Dahlia managed to look at the forbidden book without it corrupting them, Asha even looks through that... and finds a way to free Magnifico from its influence after all. (But maybe she has to write a lot of complicated notes as she figures it out?)
- What about that apprentice AU? Maybe Magnifico would've kept a journal detailing all his spells and experiments - and all the ways Asha helped him, from the small to the increasingly large. Maybe he actually decided to teach her magic, seeing potential in her, trusting her with that - and wrote letters or other instructions on what to do, so she could always refer back to them? Maybe he assigned her a spellbook to read, and then she had to write notes about it, which he then replied to? Or maybe little notes he left around his study for her, asking her to do this or that, as he slowly places more and more trust in her?
- If Magnifico still goes off the deep end despite Asha being his apprentice, maybe something in his journals or letters that he taught her helps her stop his downward spiral? Maybe it's not something magical: maybe in her desperation to save her beloved master/king, a pining Asha delves into his journals and finds the more personal entries, which reveal his trauma, and that understanding both tugs at her heart and allows her to get through to him.
- Or maybe Asha herself keeps a diary, as she settles into being the post-canon wishgranter, and slowly finds that she misses Magnifico... or documents her meetings with him, or her quest to save him. Or her diary as his apprentice, developing feelings and/or pining, not wanting to confess even once she realises what it is she feels for him because how could an older/more powerful/kingly/married man ever want her? (Except maybe he does.)
